Kids learn a lot of exciting things from their teachers, but it’s a rare day when sixth-grade English teachers provide lessons about the facts of life; however, that’s exactly what happened when Lindsay Agbalokwu gave birth on the sidewalk at her school! That’s right, the English teacher at the DSST: Conservatory Green in Stapleton was simply enjoying a regular day of pregnancy with the assurance that she had a week until her baby girl was born when she was given the shock of a lifetime. Lindsay’s baby suddenly decided that it was time to make a surprise appearance and turned her mom’s day upside down!
Lindsay had been experiencing slight pains all day long but, since she wasn’t supposed to deliver for another week at least, simply decided that they were Braxton Hicks contractions that would pass. Instead of worrying about the contractions, she moved forward with her day’s work, going so far as to even participate in the school’s award program.
When the ceremony was over and she went back to her classroom, Lindsay suddenly realized that what she was experiencing was more than just a fake contraction! The pain became intense, going from zero to one-hundred in a matter of moments. She announced that it was time to call for emergency help.

After alerting a co-teacher that she would need to cover for her, Lindsay made her way out of the building with the help of Principle Natalie Lewis and Dean of Students Chris Earls. Lindsay’s pain intensified so much that she couldn’t move forward, prompting the co-teacher to grab a sleeping bag and put it on the sidewalk.
911 personnel talked to the school employees over the phone, providing them with instructions so that they could perform the delivery if necessary. While the employees prepared for the delivery, firefighters arrived on the scene just in time to help bring baby Zara into the world – right on the sidewalk of the school.
Was Lindsay embarrassed? She reports that all concerns about being humiliated flew out the window when she welcomed her little girl into the world. Instead, Lindsay says that she considered the school employees her support system and is thankful for their help.
Lindsay reports that little Zara’s entrance into the world may prove that she’s going too be a “firecracker” and she seems excited to see what the future holds for her little bundle of joy!
