According to Vogue, the design featured a black velvet mock-neck bodice with mesh cutouts and a silver sequined column skirt finished with a dramatic thigh-high slit. Swift completed the look with sparkling drop earrings and rings, wearing her shoulder-length hair sleek and straight. While Swift attended the ceremony at the Peacock Theater, her husband, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, was in Florida for the team’s September 27, 2026 game against the Miami Dolphins. During the ceremony, Swift received the inaugural Artist Director Honors and won Video of the Year for “The Fate of Ophelia.”

The VMAs also served as the premiere venue for Swift’s “Patient Zero” music video. The track appears on The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, an expanded edition of her 2025 album featuring four additional songs. The video, directed by Swift, features actors Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell.
