Taylor Swift stepped in to help a Connecticut mother facing a long road to recovery after she was seriously injured while trying to save teenagers from a highway crash.

The pop superstar donated $50,000 to a GoFundMe campaign for Ashley Taunton, a 42-year-old mother of three who was struck by a car on Interstate 95 in Rhode Island while helping teenagers whose vehicle had hydroplaned during a rainstorm.

The terrifying incident happened on July 18, when Taunton was driving home with her 14-year-old daughter, Olivia. She spotted a vehicle that had apparently lost control in the rain and pulled over to check on the three teenagers inside.

Taunton, who previously worked as a certified nursing assistant, immediately went to help.

But while she was assisting the teens, another vehicle suddenly hydroplaned and came barreling toward them.

In a split-second decision, Taunton pushed one of the teenagers out of the vehicle's path — before she was struck herself.

The impact left Taunton with devastating injuries, including severe damage to her leg and ankle, internal bleeding, organ lacerations, fractured ribs and a ruptured diaphragm that caused one of her lungs to collapse. She underwent multiple surgeries and spent 31 days in the hospital, including time in a medically induced coma.

Yet there was another extraordinary twist to the story.

One of the teenagers Taunton had risked her life to save was 19-year-old Vinny O’Rourke — the son of Jamie O’Rourke, a longtime friend of Taunton's.

Taunton had no idea who she had rescued when she was lying injured on the roadside. Her friend only discovered what had happened later, leading to an emotional reunion and an even deeper sense of gratitude for Taunton’s actions.

As Taunton began the difficult process of recovery, friends launched a GoFundMe campaign to help her family deal with medical costs and everyday expenses. Her husband, Joe, took leave from work to care for her, as Taunton had been unable to work during her recovery, which doctors expected could take up to a year.

Then came a surprise the family could hardly believe.

Swift donated $50,000 to the fundraiser, along with a personal message wishing Taunton “the best recovery possible” and sending love to her family.

Taunton and her husband reportedly discovered the donation while she was attending physical therapy.

“We were in disbelief,” Joe said of the moment.

For Taunton, the unexpected gift was overwhelming.

She later shared her reaction on Instagram, calling Swift’s generosity “absolutely mind-blowing” and “so very humbling,” while saying she wished she could hug the singer in person.

Swift’s contribution has also helped bring even more attention to Taunton's fundraiser, with donations from supporters pouring in. The campaign has now raised more than $90,000 toward helping the family navigate the financial strain of her recovery.

For Taunton, however, the story is about more than one celebrity donation.

After surviving an accident that could have cost her life, she has said she has gained a renewed appreciation for family, kindness, and simply having more time with the people she loves.

And now, the woman who stopped to help strangers on a rain-soaked highway is receiving kindness from strangers — including one of the world’s biggest stars — in return.
