Talented Guitarist Performs Acoustic Fingerstyle Rendition Of “Sweet Child O’ Mine” By Guns N’ Roses

Songs that become classics have earned their legendary status because they were presumably created in their most perfect form. Adaptations and covers always seem to fall short. However, one man in Spain has done what was seemingly impossible and created a remarkable acoustic cover of “Sweet Child O’ Mine” by Guns ‘N Roses. After watching the video, you might even say it rivals the original.

The iconic song was the one that launched Guns ‘N Roses to fame. It debuted in 1988 and quickly shot to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts. To this day, it continues to be one of their most popular. It has been widely covered by a range of different artists and adapted into various genres of music.

The man captured in the video is Naudo Rodrigues. The talented performer has been playing the guitar for decades, ever since he was five years old according to a Last.fm biography. It has obviously become an extension of his body, and the music he creates an extension of his soul.

He utilizes a flamenco-style guitar-playing technique even though he was never officially trained at a music school. He has been featured on various YouTube videos before this one, and has covered other wildly popular hits such as Rod Stewart’s “Sailing”, Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean”, Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” and “Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien” by Edith Piaff.

Rodrigues has a way of making his guitar sound like a small band, and his quick fingers and harmonious chords come together for a beautiful rendition of the classic song. You can see him feeling the music with his facial expressions, rocking back and forth and toe-tapping movements.

There is a sweet couple positioned behind Rodrigues who is obviously enjoying the incredible impromptu performance. You can see them smiling at each other, holding hands and being affectionate. It’s just another example of the amazing effect music has on people, even to the point of causing their love to blossom at their mutual enjoyment of the music.

Meanwhile, Rodrigues makes his brilliant rendition seem effortless. Other restaurant patrons are obviously enjoying the beautiful serenade while he nonchalantly leans back and shares the masterpiece he has recreated like it’s a walk in the park. The way he handles the guitar speaks to his years of experience and extraordinary musical talent. He managed to do what many aspire to do but often fail at, and that is reinvent a song successfully.

Rodrigues has actually been on the music scene for many years, working with various artists on a number of projects. His first album, “Vento Norte”, was recorded in 1982 with a group called “Karetas”. His second album, “Alone With My Guitar” was released in 2002. Both are available on streaming platforms.

One can’t help but think, why isn’t someone like Rodrigues as famous as Eric Clapton or Santana? How many other lesser-known artists are out there and underappreciated? Probably thousands, but that’s the way the music scene works.
