Sweet Rescue Dog Courageously Saves Foster Mom From Rattlesnake

Jane Taylor has met many wonderful dogs during her time as a foster parent for homeless animals. One of her charges, however, will always stand out from the rest.

According to The Dodo, A pit bull named Nellie has won the hearts of people around the world with her heroic actions. Now all she needs is a forever home.

Nellie is a 5-year-old rescue dog that has lived the life familiar to many other pit bulls. Over her few years she has moved from a shelter to kennels in search of a home. Her behavior was typical of a dog in that lifestyle; she was nervous and shy when Taylor took her in.

The security of her life with Taylor helped Nellie to finally relax and enjoy her life. The sweet pup eventually settled in. Thanks to an active life with Taylor, she dropped the excess pounds she carried and has become a svelte and healthy dog.

It was on a hike with Taylor that Nellie proved she has what it takes to be a great companion. This March, the duo decided to make the most of a beautiful spring day with a hike through the Texas woods.

Walking through the new territory on their way back from their destination, the pair ran into trouble. The pleasant walk suddenly became terrifying as a sound alerted Taylor to trouble.

The foster mom screamed and froze when she realized a rattlesnake had crossed their path. Nellie acted instantly and ran up from behind Taylor to attack the dangerous creature. The sweet dog willingly sacrificed herself to save her human companion. The rattlesnake immediately latched onto the face of the canine hero.

“She ran from behind me before I could even step away or turn around or anything — and she was on top of the snake,” said Taylor.

Matthew, a friend of Taylor who had come along that day, removed the snake from Nellie and helped Taylor to carry the dog to the car. The venom had already begun to cause the poor pup discomfort as her face began to swell.
The pup was rushed to the vet where it took two vials of antivenom to save her life. Nellie was sent home to recover with lots of rest and a course of antibiotics.

Nellie's foster mom, though grateful for the sacrifice she made, had to make the hard decision to not adopt. Taylor must relocate to care for her elderly parents, so Nellie the hero is still on the lookout for a family to love. Please, help to spread the word about this amazing dog available from the Final Frontier Rescue Project in Texas. She truly deserves a forever home.
