Dogs and cats are among the favorite pets in the United States with millions of owners happily calling these animals part of the family. While most people opt for having one or the other, there are some brave owners who decide to have the best of both worlds. They want the loyalty and protection of a dog while also having the entertainment and autonomy of a cat. This is a confusing decision for many people who are invested in the idea that dogs and cats can never get along or be in the same place.

It's no secret that cats and dogs are portrayed as mortal enemies in nearly every context. Turn on Saturday morning cartoons and you're bound to see some classic battle of cat vs. dog. The relationship between these two pets is seemingly as toxic as those between hunter and prey, even though cats and dogs aren't natural enemies. The division is even present at the human level as people tend to categorize themselves based on their preference between the two pets. You're either a 'dog person' or a 'cat person'. It's not common to find someone in between. There's usually a clear preference.

Although there are certainly instances when cats and dogs don't get along, the overarching narrative of these animals being mortal enemies doesn't seem to hold any weight in real life. Many owners who have both cats and dogs will tell you quite the opposite actually. Instead of attacking each other, they tend to get along well. Even if a cat and dog don't have matching personalities, they'll keep to themselves instead of fighting. After all, they're both unified by their love for their owner.

One owner is helping to put this myth to rest by sharing some adorable pictures proving that cats and dogs not only can exist in peace, but that they can also be best friends. The YouTube user fesadrs uploaded a video of the two unlikely friends who are sure to warm up your heart. Zeke is a young puppy, and Winston is a caring cat. Zeke was unfortunately taken to the vet in order to be treated for allergies he has to some grasses. He received benadryl shots and steroids to treat the hives. Winston, the loving cat, can be seen taking care of Zeke during his time of need.
