Sweet History Behind Duchess Camilla's Stunning Blue Birthday Outfit

In honor of the Duchess of Cornwall's 73rd birthday, Buckingham Palace released a stunning new portrait of Camilly sporting a gorgeous blue outfit. 

Not only is the ensemble beautiful, but it also likely has a special meaning, seeing as the Duchess turned to her Wedding Dress designer Anne Valentine to design it. 

Camilla has remained close to Valentine over the years, having sported many outfits for Royal engagements over the years designed by the brand. The particular blue birthday outfit in question features a zip in the front. The Duchess has another similar dress in denim. 

Indeed, female members of the Royal family tend to stay close to the designers who create their wedding dresses, so it's no wonder Valentine was called upon once again for Camilla's birthday.

Valentine has kept a low profile regarding her relationship with Camilla over the years and seldom speaks of it with the media. She did, however, speak to The Telegraph in 2007, where she revealed she had one main objective when designing the wedding dress: she wanted it to be made of a "light" and "fluid" fabric.

She says she knew she got it right once she saw a photo of the newly wedded couple stepping out from Windsor Guildhall when the dress moved with a passing breeze. 

 "I went, 'Yesss! It moved!'," she said.

The Duchess of Cornwall's choice of color might have been bold for a Royal, but it definitely paid off as she looks absolutely stunning in her photos. 

Camilla chose to complement her stylish blue outfit with her signature dramatic blowout, toned down but nevertheless beautiful makeup, pearl earrings and a pair of nude shoes. She definitely does wear it well!
