Football fans always come out for a show. They fill the bleachers for the big games and the small, expecting to be entertained by the drama and sportsmanship of the game. Fans at a recent Eagles vs. Patriots match who were anticipating the usual entertainment got a secondary show that they were not expecting.

At the start of the game, all eyes in the stands were focused on Kim Tavares, the Boston local police officer who had been invited to lead the crowd in the pre-game rendition of the national anthem. Soon, attention focused on a young boy, up in the bleachers, belting his sweet little heart out along with Tavares, in a video that would soon after go very viral.

A Patriots fan in true form, three-year-old Garrett Spence sang along to the national anthem along with Kim Tavares and the rest of the crowd attending that day, including his Patriots fan parents. Spence and his parents, also Boston police officers, attended the football game that day all clad in prideful New England Patriots gear, ready for the big game Thursday night.

Young Garrett taught everyone in attendance, and those who watched the viral video, how the national anthem was truly meant to be sung. With his little hand over his heart, the boy stood tall and proud, belting out the lyrics as he has clearly done countless times before.

Many of us are too shy to sing in crowds, and only are able to belt like this in the car or in the shower, where we know we won’t be heard! It’s hard to imagine someone actually belting out the national anthem with even more enthusiasm than this patriotic three-year-old, but he sure showed everyone how to sing it right! His young voice was heard above the crowd, and he made sure of it!

The video quickly gained over six million views on Facebook alone. Having quickly gone so viral, it didn’t take too long for the Boston police officer, Kim Tavares, who sang the national anthem from the field that day, to discover the video and respond to it via Twitter. She referred to Garrett as her partner in crime and being the reason that she sings.

The pair truly did reach a large audience that day, who had heartfelt reactions to their “duet.” She even respectfully mentions Garrett Spence’s parents, Boston police officers like herself and her colleagues, and how parents from all over should follow their lead, letting their children lead the way and to teach them well. Garrett’s parents must have taught him how to stand tall and cheer on for what he believes in; in this case, for patriotism, the American country and of course their football team, the New England Patriots!

Interestingly, Kim Tavares’ name or face might sound familiar to you from outside of this touching story. If it does ring a bell, it’s likely because of her older viral video from a police officer karaoke event. Tavares and her partner caught the attention of the viral world singing their duet of “God Bless America,” showcasing her vocal talents and abilities, likely part of the reason she had been invited to sing at the Patriots game.

Tavares has stated that she’s incredibly proud of the patriotic young boy, as are her colleagues, Garrett’s parents. In a local newspaper interview, their pride could not be held back as they spoke of their son’s big moment. This video shows Garrett’s patriotism, vocal talents, and especially, the deep pride he holds for his country:

What are your thoughts on this impressive young patriot? Many believe that this boy and his family demonstrate the strength of Americans in our willingness to show our respect for our nation and the flag and, of course, our deeply ingrained enthusiasm for serving and believing in our country. Tell us if you agree in the comments and pass this on to your friends and loved ones.
