Suzanne Somers has done it all. She has worked as an actress, author, singer, businesswoman and health spokesperson over her incredibly long career. The multi-faceted woman has continued to make headlines as she has taken more remarkable steps to elevate her career. Somers has also been known to be incredibly polarizing, as she has made some controversial statements over the years. However, what is undeniable is how this 76-year-old woman still looks absolutely gorgeous and has proven it through recent Instagram photos.
Some of the famous woman’s work includes her time on “Three’s Company” and “Step by Step.” Somers is also the author of many self-help books, autobiographies, diet books and even a book of her own poetry. She kept her presence known even when she wasn’t working on television shows or appearing in films by finding work as a spokesperson for infomercials.
Her personal views on the medical world have been criticized over the years, as she has no formal training in the area but still makes her opinions widely known. Even though her mother was a medical secretary, Somers has never entered the medical field herself, except to express her many controversial viewpoints with others after enduring plenty of personal health issues. However, this didn’t stop Somers from hosting the 13-episode “The Suzanne Show” in 2012, where she would talk to guests about a range of topics covering health and fitness.
She saw plenty of ups and downs in her career, something that was also true of her personal life. While the twice-married Somers has had some struggles in the love and family department, she has faced them head-on and come out on top. Read on to learn more about her 45-year second marriage, their family difficulties and the secret behind their long-lasting love.

Somers was born on Oct. 16, 1946, in San Bruno, California. Her faith was essential to her during her younger years as she attended San Francisco College for Women, a college that was run by the Catholic Society of the Sacred Heart. Somers married her first husband, Bruce Somers, in 1965, when she was still a teenager. The couple had one son together, Bruce Somers Jr., later that year in November. Unfortunately, the romance was short-lived, and the couple divorced in 1968.
As a prize model on “Anniversary Game,” she met host Alan Hamel. The two quickly fell in love and were together for 10 years before they finally got married in 1977. Although the couple doesn’t have any children together, Somers had one from her previous marriage, and Hamel had two from his first marriage to Marilyn Hamel.
Somers revealed in the early days of their marriage, blending their families together was tricky business. She told People:
“We fought like dogs for 10 years during our dating and living together period (which was actually kind of sexy), but getting married calmed things down. Building our business and combining families added new complications, but finally our personal and business relationship became clearly defined and here we are 50 years later and very grateful.”
Even after a fire razed her Malibu home in 2007, Somers was able to see the silver lining, expressing how glad she was no one in her family was hurt. “We will rebuild, and I truly believe we will learn something great from this experience,” she said.
Now, 45 years on from exchanging “I do’s,” Somers and Hamel have only gone from strength to strength, and are settling into their new roles as grandparents. However, that doesn’t mean all the passion is gone from their relationship.

Somers made headlines with her 2017 memoir “Two’s Company: A Fifty-Year Romance with Lessons Learned in Love, Life & Business,” in which she detailed the passion she still shares with her husband and never sleeping a night away from him, among other things. She told People one of the secrets to their long-lasting relationship was their mutual attraction to each other.
“I love the way Alan looks at me. I love looking at him. He turns me on, I turn him on. It was like this at the beginning and it remains to this day. I thank God every day for this incredible love in my life.”
She added: “We give each other a lot of attention. We date at least three times a week. We dance when we are alone. We are respectful of one another. We both value our good health. I never get tired of him. We laugh a lot. ... We are each other’s everything.”
Even after decades of building their family – which has grown to 18 members – together, the pair continue to stay close, even through the night.
“It’s not, like, a chore for us. I love to hug him and rub his hair. He tells me I’m beautiful all the time and we hold hands while we sleep. It’s the most beautiful part of my life,” she told Us magazine.
It’s clear their love is still going strong as on Jan. 6, 2023, Somers paid tribute to Hamel on their 45th wedding anniversary with a touching Instagram post. It featured a collage of two photos, one from their early days and one recent picture together, captioned with “Still smiling 55 years later.”
