In September, Prince Harry toured Africa, and he made conservation a priority. He pointed out that conservation used to be the concern of scientists, but he believes that it has become a fundamental part of survival for all people now. He urged people to set aside selfishness, greed, and apathy in order to make progress toward mitigating climate change.
The Duke of Sussex has continued in this tradition to make conservation a priority, and people are responding to his words throughout the world. Fans of the couple have begun efforts that have been inspired by them. A group of supporters in Sussex has begun a campaign to plant 10,000 trees that will be donated in Meghan, Harry and Archie's names.
An announcement was made on Nov. 20, which is Universal Children's Day, about the #SussexGreatForest campaign, which honors the royal couple's conservation efforts for safeguarding the planet for coming generations. Some newly-planted trees are already standing as a testament to the campaign.

In the southern region of Malawi, some school children at The Gopie School got involved in the campaign. They planted 20 fruit trees on their school grounds that served as part of an educational module that was led by the Great Forest Campaign. The effort will continue with the planting of 50 more trees at the school before the end of 2019. The children will also learn about how to care for trees and other aspects of the environment.
A group of 12 people is leading the project, and they have chosen four other charity organizations to get involved in the tree planting activities in the royal couple's name. One of the organizations is Tree Sisters, which is a charity located in the U.K. that consists of a female group of nature advocates, activists, leaders, mothers and daughters who seek to inspire a diverse group of women to spur on crowdfunding for tropical reforestation.
One Tree Planted, a U.S. organization is also joining the efforts by planting trees around the world. The British organization International Tree Foundation has a long history of tree planting, and it is involved in activities taking place in 30 different countries. The Green Belt Movement is headquartered in Kenya, and it was founded by Wangari Maathai, who won a Nobel Peace Prize. She gets women involved in planting trees and empowering communities to protect the environment and scarce water resources.
Erica Sanders, the organizer of #SussexGreatForest told Harper's Bazaar representatives that the organization is following Prince Harry's lead with activities that will take place during National Tree Week in the U.K., and it is inspired by the prince's #LookUp campaign that has been active on social media. That campaign was partnered with National Geographic to emphasize the importance of environmentalism, and it is associated with his work during the Queen's Commonwealth Canopy campaign, which has the involvement of 53 countries that are conserving forests and planting trees as part of the effort to mitigate climate change.

Sanders told Harper's Bazaar how she felt about the work she is doing, saying that it is an issue that affects the entire world, so people in all global regions need to get involved. She spoke about the 12 leaders of the worldwide initiative who are located in different parts of the world and connected online to make the program work. Each of the leaders takes on a specific aspect of the initiative. One is in charge of tree planting, another with communication and others work on social media. The goals are large in scope, but there is already a great deal of support.
As Archie's birth on May 6th approached, some of his mother's fans joined together to create a social media campaign that received thousands of donations that were given to three charities that came from over 70 countries.

A spokesperson of the Great Forest Campaign based in New York, Rita Anne Wallace, told Harper's Bazaar that her team is inspired by Prince Harry's passion for the environment and by the efforts of Meghan to empower women. she is also inspired by young people, such as Great Thunberg, who are urging adults to make changes to ensure the survival of younger generations.
The #SussexGreatForest campaign is scheduled to continue until Archie's 1st. birthday. The initiative has already succeeded in planting trees in countries all over the world, including Jamaica, the United States, South Africa, the U.K., France, and others. Erica Sanders, who is based in California, is eager to see more support for the prince and his conservation efforts. She mentioned to Harper's Bazaar that the plans began in July, but the prince's trip to Africa gave it a needed spark to get going. Meghan made an important statement about the effort, explaining that social media is not enough to make a change, and this inspired them to make the inspirational trip to Africa.
