Susan Sarandon has a long and successful career, starting out as a wide-eyed ingénue in the 1970s. She has since starred in an array of films and television shows and has been honored with multiple awards over her several decades in the entertainment industry. The star has also made appearances on stage. Aside from her acting career, she has also been a vocal activist for various causes, including endometriosis treatment and research.

The Oscar-winning actress was born in 1946 in New York. During her school years, she found a love for performing and began acting, dancing, and playing musical instruments. It was clear that she had talent from the start, and it only got stronger as she made her way into adulthood.

Susan made her acting debut in the film “Joe” in 1970. Shortly after, she went on to appear on television before later starring as Janet Weiss in the musical comedy horror film “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”

She’s been in several other notable films, including “The Witches of Eastwick,” “Lorenzo’s Oil,” “The Client” and “Little Women.” However, to this day, her most recognized film is 1991’s “Thelma & Louise,” in which she starred alongside Geena Davis

However, while Susan was praised for her performance on screen, she was criticized once the cameras stopped rolling for choices she made in her personal life, namely becoming a mother. She spoke about becoming a parent, quieting doubts from those who called her “crazy.”

She has three children: one from filmmaker Franco Amurri and two from actor Tim Robbins. All her children followed her into the entertainment industry, with the youngest even being the subject of a few headlines because of his sexuality.

Susan showed that despite not looking like the typical Hollywood bombshells of the moment, she could still be sexy by exuding confidence. On a personal level, the actress has similarly shown confidence and self-determination in the face of expectations.

Susan has been married and divorced once and has had three highly publicized romances with AmurriRobbins, and Jonathan Bricklin. She also has three children, with her eldest being born when she was 39 years old and her youngest when she was 45.

Susan has also been vocal about becoming a mother later in life. She had her first – lifestyle blogger and actress Eva Amurri – in 1985. Susan welcomed her second – director and writer, Jack Henry Robbins – in 1989 and her third – musician and actor Miles Robbins – in 1992.

According to People Magazine, Sarandon has no regrets about her decision to become a mother. Speaking to Anderson Cooper in 2012, Susan shared that raising her children in New York City was better than raising them in California.

“I think living in New York is really helpful because you’re with everybody. You’re not isolated,” she explained, comparing them to raising in Los Angeles, where she described to be “such a big fuss about everything.”

She also noted that she decided to raise them in New York because of the “flexibility and adaptability,” making her children “more open to people’s differences.”

As expected, all of her children went on to become open-minded adults who followed her into the entertainment industry. Her eldest, Eva, became an actress, while her son, Jack, became a writer and a director.

Miles, Susan’s youngest son, grew up to be a fine young man. At 31, Miles has starred in various films and television shows throughout the years, including “My Friend Dahmer,” and “Daniel Isn’t Real,” among others.

Interestingly, Miles caught the attention of the media when Susan revealed to People Magazine in 2015 her non-traditional beliefs and ways of parenting.

“As a mother, I know how difficult it is to survive the teenage years intact and the socialization process – if you step out of line, it’s so difficult,” she told the publication.

Susan reiterated her preference for raising her children in New York City, where they were opened up to a melting pot of cultures and ideas.

“..There are so many kids these days who are questioning, gay or transgender, who have a very tough time and it could be very dangerous for them. I think it’s really great that we are having all these conversations and getting kids to understand that there is somewhere we can go to talk it over,” Susan shared after revealing that her son, Miles, performs in dresses and has long hair

Miles wrote in a blog post on The HuffPost, rhetorically asking “Is It Really That Strange For a Guy to Wear a Dress?”

In the enlightening piece, Miles clarified that he “wear[s] dresses to embrace femininity (adjective) but not to re-assign my gender to female (noun).”

“I think that it is absurd to think that there is a rigidity to the identity of CIS and Heterosexual males and females, that for a man to wear a dress or for a woman to wear pants means they are LGBTQ,” he wrote.

Miles, who has since cut his long hair off, as seen in a picture on his Instagram account, has reiterated elsewhere in the same blog post that he does not identify as part of the LGBTQ community and is still sexually attracted to the opposite sex. He, however, prefers baking and cooking as opposed to other hobbies conventionally liked by men.
