Surge In Adoptions Cleared Out This Animal Shelter’s Kennel For The First Time Ever Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

The kennel of animal shelter Friends of Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control is empty for the first time ever because of the surge in adoptions amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The shelter has released a video of staff and volunteers celebrating the occasion on their facebook page.

The staff and volunteer can be seen standing inside the kennels and looking out on the corridor clapping to show that all their animals have been adopted. They are also seen to be, responsibly, wearing masks. They jump, wave, and cheer as the camera pans to show the rest of the empty kennels in the back.

"This amazing milestone was made possible by the help and support of our entire community!" they wrote on their facebook page.

Thank you to the shelter staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to care for, find homes for, and advocate for the pets who come through these doors; thank you to our incredible foster parents who open their heart and homes to thousands of pets each year; thank you to everyone who has opted to adopt a shelter pet – whether it be here or from any of the other amazing organizations out there; thank you to our placement partner organizations far and wide – without them, this would not be possible.

As great as it is to give a loving home to an animal in need, prospective and current animal parents should remember that it’s not all belly rubs and wagging tails. Pets are a big responsibility; they need to be fed, groomed, given medical care and exercise.

And this can get expensive, especially at a time when people are already struggling financially as COVID-19 has shut down retailers, travel companies and restaurants.

Good news like this is much needed during this current climate. Remember that a dog is for life, not just during a pandemic. Pass this along to your friends and family and maybe they will consider giving a home to an animal in need, too.
