Superman' Actor Henry Cavill Reveals His Pet Dog 'Saved' Him From Mental Health Struggles

For many pet owners, it’s easy for their furry companions to become their best friends. These precious animals are always there whenever they need someone to turn to, through all of the ups and downs that life throws their way. This is exactly how Henry Cavill feels about his pet dog, an American Akita breed named Kal.

Cavill has been a professional actor since 2001, picking up several roles in both films and television shows throughout the course of his career. The star is most known for portraying the most recent version of Superman in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” starring opposite Ben Affleck, as well as appearing in the film “Justice League,” where he showed off his amazing physique and incredible acting chops. Since then, Cavill has gone on to act in the TV series “The Witcher,” and has a few other projects in the works for the future.

While Cavill has been praised for his amazing work, he has also become extremely beloved by fans due to his down-to-earth and charming personality, as well as many of his co-workers over the years. On top of that, he has also made sure to show his gratitude to those that have helped him along the way, including his pet dog. 

In December 2021, the 38-year-old British actor opened up about how much his trusty companion really means to him and how Kal is always by his side. Most importantly, Kal even saved Cavill from his mental health struggles. Read on to find out more about the heartwarming relationship Cavill shares with his furry pal.

Cavill has shown time and time again just how kind he is to others and how much he truly tries to spread happiness wherever he goes. During an interview in 2021, he talked about his reputation of being known as the nice guy on set, especially during his time on “The Man from U. N.C.L.E,” and how he would take the time to walk around and say hello to every single person in the cast and crew before filming began.

According to the Daily Mail, Cavill said, “(Kindness) means a lot. We are busy these days; it doesn’t take long, it takes five to ten minutes to shake everyone’s hand. It doesn’t delay the day. Everyone feels like a human.”

The actor has also taken the time to show his pet dog Kal to his co-workers, making sure that the pup gets all the love and attention he rightfully deserves. According to the Daily Mail, Kal was recently spotted alongside Cavill at the Netflix premiere of the second season of the series “The Witcher.” Cavill didn’t want his friend to miss out on the important event and kept Kal safe in the back of the car while they were on their way to the premiere.

Cavill has led a busy life, especially starring as one of the most famous superheroes, Superman. Talking about what it was like playing the character and wearing the iconic costume, Cavill said, “That was so much fun. It’s the kind of thing where, even though it’s been so long since I’ve put the suit on professionally, it does (still fit), thankfully.” Additionally, Cavill said that earning the role was “a wonderful opportunity.”

While Cavill has really made his mark in the entertainment world and has gone on to inspire many people from all over the world, the actor himself has at times needed a little extra help along the way during his trajectory to fame. He grew up in a supportive family that Cavill credits as being a great way to prepare for action films due to the amount of “rough and tumble” he dealt with.

That extra round of support has also come from Cavill’s adorable pet dog named Kal. According to the Daily Mail, Cavill credits Kal with saving him from his own mental health issues that he has dealt with over the years. 

In December 2021, Cavill spoke about his pup and said, “He really is my best friend, we go everywhere together.” He also said that the two even have an inseparable bond. “He’s 8 now and he has saved my emotional and psychological bacon plenty of times,” Cavill added. “We have an incredibly close bond.” 

It seems like no matter what Cavill is going through or what emotions he is feeling, Kal is always right there beside him to lend a helping hand, or in this case, paw. “He (Kal) kind of gets it,” Cavill explained. “He senses it when I’ve got my own stuff on, he’ll be close – he’s almost always close, but he’ll be closer.”

It’s clear that the British actor and his adorable dog have a very wonderful bond with each other and are always looking out for each other. It looks like a dog really is man’s best friend!
