When former President George H.W. Bush passed away in November of 2018 at age 94, he left behind a heartbroken family who were grateful they had gotten to spend so much time with him - including his wonderful and beloved service dog, Scully.

Scully received national media attention after the former president’s passing after a picture of him sitting in front of George H. W. Bush’s casket went viral. Since then, he has been recovering from the loss in private.

Now, he has officially begun a new job with the U.S. Navy. On assignment at Walter Reed National Military Center on the outskirts of Washington.

The ceremony has also gone viral after it was publically streamed on a Facebook Live event. The precious pup received the honor of being designated Hospital Corpsman Second Class.

During the ceremony, a Navy spokesman said, “Your appointment as a petty officer in the United States Navy makes you heir to a long and proud tradition of naval leadership.”

Sully was so happy about the news that it was posted on his very popular Instagram page. He was clearly proud of his newest achievement.

“Today I became an official Facility Dog – HM2 Petty Officer. It’s an honor and privilege to join a wonderful group of dogs at @WRNMMC and I look forward to continue my mission to serve veterans as my best friend wanted me to.”

Reports say that Sully’s main duty in his new role will be reducing stress and increasing the well-being of both patients and staff - and, if we’ve learned anything from seeing Sully in the past, we know it’s a mission the adorable service dog will be able to handle.
