We try to teach our kids to have compassion for others. We hope the lessons we teach stay with them in the future. One mother's lessons seemed to have taken hold. She found out her child is one of those hidden heroes.

Max is a six-year-old boy. He had just entered kindergarten at Frostproof Elementary School in Frostproof, Florida.

On August 22nd, his kindergarten class had a substitute teacher, Joyce Darr. Going about the daily tasks of running a classroom, Ms. Darr fell. She fell down and hit her head on the floor, going unconscious. Little Max knew what to do. He ran out of the classroom and out into the hall. He got to a nearby classroom and yelled out, "We need help!"

Due to this little boy's quick thinking, the school got help out immediately. And it was a close call. When Darr fell, she hit her head hard, causing the brain to bleed. It was a situation that could have turned tragic without immediate attention. Darr had to be on life support for almost two weeks. Her son, Derek, was quick to praise the little boy's actions. "You are the real MVP," he said to Max in an ABC article.

Derek invited Max and his family to come visit his mom while she was in the hospital. They were able to thank him for his brave actions. Darr doesn't recall what happened, but she had heard the stories of how a little boy was able to get her the help she needed. When she saw him, she smiled. To show his appreciation, Derke gave Max a pair of white Air Jordan's. Now, he will be able to run for help whenever it's needed.

Monica Aguilar, Max's mom, is extremely proud of her son's bravery. She said, "...it was very, very exciting. And proud, you know, to be his mom." Max received a Good Citizen's Award from the police department. Sheriff Grady Judd was quite happy to say, "Max is a hero." At that ceremony, Monica reiterated to WFLA how proud her son had made her. "I’m just so proud of my kid."

Monica taught her son to run tell her if something ever happened to his little brother. That lesson seems to have come into play when Max ran to get help for his teacher. Joyce Darr was able to get out of bed earlier this week. That was the first time since she had the accidents. Doctors say she should make a full recovery.
