Strengthen And Stretch Your Back With These 7 Simple Exercises

May 30, 2018 by apost team

The human back is one of the most complex structures you'll find in the body. It consists of different bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels that connect many parts of your body, ranging from your neck to your buttocks. Not only that, but the back's purpose of being the home of your spinal cord, one of the main support systems of the body, makes it an incredibly important thing for you to continually stretch and maintain through stretching and exercising.

Canadian Chiropractor Dr. Chad Ellis has a specific list of exercises you should try next time you're looking to strengthen your back.

Here are the 7 exercises he recommends:

1. Head-to-Toe Stretch

This easy stretch is something you should be doing 20 seconds a day by standing up straight and slowly bending your back to try and touch your toes with your hands. It's not advisable to stretch your back as the first thing in the morning, but if done carefully on a daily basis you can increase your flexibility.

2. Upper Back Stretch

For this stretch you should place your arms on an edge that is at the height of your head while extending your arms out so you can push your upper body down until you feel gentle discomfort.

3. Face Pull

To do this simple exercise, reach your hands out forward before pulling them back.

4. Back Extensions

For this exercise, rest yourself on a machine for back stretching and put your hands behind your back or wrap them in front of your chest and bend your body downward towards the floor and bring yourself back up. You can do this on the floor, as well, as pictured above.

5. Barbell Rows

Kneel on a bench, holding one hand down on the bench and one leg on the floor, and lift a weight with your free hand, letting it extend past the table.

6. Deadlifts

If you're into weightlifting, use deadlifts to strengthen your back—they can be a great exercise to do, but be careful to not injure yourself!

7. Sitting Rows

Sitting on an object, wrapping a tensor band around your feet and pulling them towards you is a good way to exercise your back as well.
