Street Puppy Wags Tail At Passersby Trying To Be Noticed

In distant Sri Lanka, in a city called Nuwara Eliya, there is a little pup who is determined to get as much love out of anyone she can. The city, which is known as 'Little England' for its dense greenery and cool climate, has several tourists. Back in 2016, Lek Chailert and some fellow rescuers from Elephant Nature Park noticed her.

With a country village atmosphere, it’s easy to see why. However, just like England can be, there are plenty of winds that chill; the hearts of humans can become cold. That’s exactly what our little protagonist felt each time someone walked by her without even so much as a glance.

Elephant News reports that this little pup would wag her tail furiously and follow complete strangers in the bazaar and market areas. Every day she’d hoped that someone, anyone, would give her a little bit of their time and attention.

In spite of the dog’s determination, every day her tail would wag a little less and less by the time the sunset. Resolving to never give up, the canine would rise again with the sun and seek out the attention and love she craved.

A team of foreign elephant researchers passed through the area on their way to make purchases and prepare for more elephant work. However, when they encountered such a sorry pup, they couldn’t help but spend a little bit of time with her.

Taking a few minutes out of their day wouldn’t delay them too much, so they thought it was just a harmless act of brief affection for a fellow being in need of a little petting.

The young pup, however, loved their touches far too much to let them leave just like that. She elected that she’d found her humans, and she proceeded to follow them closely all through the market. There was nothing keeping her off them; she was like velcro! Eventually, however, the team brought her back to where she was discovered.

As the elephant researchers attempt to walk away, the dog refuses to leave them alone. She sprinted after them every time she was left alone, and her persistence touched their hearts.

The team went around the market area to see who would be interested in possibly taking the dog into their care. However, people in the area don’t have many needs for female dogs, and they generally declined.

What exactly is the problem with female dogs, in this case, we might never know. Unfortunately, it did provide a terrible barrier to adoption that probably caused the poor canine to be left out on the streets in the first place!

Thushara, the team’s driver in and out of the towns, was asked if he could possibly take the dog into his care, at least for a short time. It couldn’t hurt to ask, after all, and he ended up agreeing with the plan. They took the dog to a local hotel, where the young pup went right to sleep. It was probably the soundest slumber she’d had in years.

Looking at the way she trots after the researchers the next day, and how she relaxes in the arms of the men when they hold her, really illustrates how attention-starved she was. They even decided to bathe her and give her a dedicated blanket. Watching her shake off the water is so adorable! Eventually, she was taken in by the groups’ relatives where she was able to make many more human and animal friends. Three years later, and she hasn’t forgotten those who rescued her.
