Stray Wolf Dog Timidly Hides In Corner Until He Finds Sanctuary With A New Companion

When authorities received word of an emaciated stray dog wandering through a Los Angeles neighborhood, they didn't expect anything beyond an ordinary rescue. However, rescuers soon discovered the sick, mange-covered dog was actually a wolf-dog hybrid who would require special care.

Personnel scrambled to find a specialized sanctuary where the wolf-dog, who was eventually named Castiel, could be taken in and given the care he needed to recover. If no specialized facility could be found, Castiel was liable to be euthanized because wolf-dogs are not eligible for adoption.

Fortunately, the W.O.L.F. Sanctuary in Bellvue, Colorado opened their doors to Castiel and he was quickly transported to his new home.

As the Sancturay explains, W.O.L.F. staff began to notice that Castiel was reserved and mistrustful of humans, likely because of his young age and a lifetime of living on the streets. As his medical recovery progressed, staff looked to find a canine companion to remedy Castiel's obvious loneliness.

W.O.L.F. staff finally found a good match in a newly arrived wolf-dog named Tenali. A friendly, outgoing female, Tenali eventually proved to be the perfect companion for the shy Castiel. Although he was hesitant when first introduced to his potential pal, Castiel couldn't resist Tenali's friendliness and the pair soon became inseparable.

While Castiel remained very shy of humans, he and his best pal Tenali formed a powerful bond and could often be observed playing and resting together. Tenali was eventually moved when she began looking after a new pup named Zakai, while an older female named Bella became Castiel's new buddy. Like Tenali, Bella is outgoing and social and doesn't mind interacting with humans, while Castiel prefers to remain in the background, which makes for a good balance of personalities.

Castiel's harrowing journey from the tough life of a stray to permanent contentment at W.O.L.F. Sanctuary is amazing, but far from unusual. The sanctuary's website contains the heartwarming and heart-wrenching biographies of all of its wolf-dog residents. Their stories, like Castiel's, offer messages of hope and inspiration that can benefit us all.
