Stray Dogs Overjoyed As They Are Rescued By Volunteers From California Junkyard

Christmas may be over, but it is important to remember that you can make a difference for those in need every day of the year. Organizations around the globe help the most vulnerable on a daily basis, making the world a better place with each step they take. One such organization is Hope for Paws.

Hope for Paws’ mission is to help animals facing life threatening and precarious situations. In an inspiring story, Hope for Paws recently shared a video of two of their volunteers saving a brother-sister canine duo from a junkyard.

Entering the junkyard, the two volunteers, a man and a woman, immediately caught sight of the wayward pooches. Although the volunteers entered the area in a calm, measured manner, their entry immediately frightened the female dog, who ran under a metal container to hide from her intended rescuers. Concerned that the female might try to leave the area, the volunteers decided that that animal took immediate precedence and worked to get her under their custody.

At first, the volunteers used a long pole with a rope on the end to get the female from out of her hiding place. The task was made all the harder as the scared pup kept on moving further away from them. When they had successfully gotten the female, one of the volunteers, Lisa Arturo, slipped a leash around her neck so that she wouldn’t be able to run away.

Catching the male dog was much easier. The volunteers called to the dog who, upon seeing his sister with them, cautiously approached. The male dog kissed and rubbed his sister with his nose as the volunteers quickly put a leash around his neck. Wagging his tail and sniffing his rescuers, the little guy was overjoyed to be rescued from the junkyard.

On the way to the veterinary office, Lisa decided to name her new friends Elmer and Elsie. After receiving a positive health assessment from the vet, Hope for Paws gave Elmer and Elsie a bath and haircut, scrubbing away all the motor oil that had covered their fur.

Hope for Paws put Elmer and Elsie up for adoption through California Maltese Rescue. The rescue group hopes to keep the two dogs together in their forever home. In the organization’s video, the duo can be seen playing and frolicking with their new friends. Another sweet pooch in the video, Betty, is also available for adoption. Those who wish to adopt Elmer, Elsie, and Betty can find more information at HopeForPaws.org. The organization also accepts donations of as little as $5.
