Stray Dog Who Used To Live In An Old Tire Just Wants To Hug His Rescuer

With the only thing he has to offer, Figo thanks his rescuer for saving him from a life of certain and painstaking canine doom. So what does a dog have to offer? Love, of course, and plenty of hugs and kisses to seal the deal. Here’s Figo’s story.

Greece is overrun with stray animals. Following Greece’s economic crash, many animals were abandoned and left to multiply and waste away diseased and malnourished. But one man's mission – to rescue these abandoned animals – began when he found a dog with a broken leg struggling to survive in a rubbish area near his home. Takis, the man, nursed the dog back to health and was soon caring for some 40 animals in the area.

Neighbors didn’t care for Takis efforts, which led him to buy the land that would become Takis Shelter. Takis cares for the 350 dogs, 50 cats, six goats, and two sheep that now call Takis Shelter home. He leads the shelter all by himself and with the financial help of donations.

One of the many calls Takis has received was about Figo, a stray dog calling an old tire his home. Figo was severally malnourished, covered in fleas, and had many festering wounds, but he somehow retained a gentle and friendly nature through his ordeal.

Takis took sweet Figo home to nurse him back to health. Poor Figo didn’t even know how to act in a clean, warm, and safe environment. He went straight to a cat’s sandbox and curled up in the litter as if soft and dry fabrics were a foreign concept. With encouragement from Takis, Figo embraced a real bed and slept soundly for what was likely a first in his life.

The next day, Takis introduced Figo to real food. He loved it and just can’t seem to get enough of it now. Food is Figo’s favorite thing, but we wonder if Figo’s real favorite thing in the world is Takis.

In the video below you can see Figo showering his savior with loving hugs and kisses as their connection grows.
