An unsuspecting dog by the name of Randy is being hailed as a hero after a closed-circuit video of the dog taking action to come to the aid of another was released to the public. Randy is not used to being a celebrity. In fact, his existence was a nonexistent one until he was adopted by workers at a gas station.

Randy lives in Tamaulipas, Mexico. Two years ago he began showing up at a local gas station. He was badly emaciated. Gas station workers noticed how afraid of people the unnamed dog was at the time. It was obvious someone had mistreated him. It took some time but the workers at the gas station were able to earn the trust of the dog. Not long after, Randy was officially adopted and made the mascot of the store.

Gerardo Aquilar explained they fed the dog, bathed him, and paid for him to be vaccinated. Looking back, Aquilar said they had no idea how extraordinary the dog would prove to be when they gave him such an ordinary name like Randy. The once-homeless canine would soon pay them back in spades for their kindness to him.

One evening, two gunmen arrived at the gas station deserving money. The attendant working at the time said no to the money demands and was violently beaten. The video of the event is available below but sensitive viewers should exercise caution when watching.

The assault continued but the criminals had no idea what would soon come their way. Randy was sleeping in a nearby warehouse when he was awakened by the commotion. The dog soon came rushing to help.

Randy was able to run the criminals away before that gas station attendant was harmed more than he already had been. The entire incident was caught on gas station security cameras. The footage shows Randy saving the attendant from more abuse and possibly saving the man's life.

Local residents have come to love Randy as much as the workers at the gas station. One frequent customer, Nuria Arellano, told The Dodo she visits the gas station sometimes just to see Randy. Arellano says it makes her happy just to see the dog and she credits him with saving the life of the gas station attendant.

The gas station manager Gerardo Aguilar was also proud of his de facto employee.

"We were surprised to see how he reacted, and of course we are proud of him," Aguilar told The Dodo. "If it weren't for Randy, who knows how things would have ended. He shows us how grateful and happy he is with us."
