Stray Dog Visits The Same Car Wash Weekly To Use The ‘Automatic Petting Machine’

Linda, a stray dog in Turkey, comes to the same car wash a couple of times a week to use the automatic petting machine. A video taken during one of her visits by an employee at the car wash was posted to Reddit in January.

You've likely heard the phrase, "you can't teach an old dog new tricks." However, a pair of car wash employees caught one dog on camera teaching the world that dogs can teach themselves tricks, thank you very much. Unfortunately, this dog, affectionately named Linda, is one of the local strays in the province of Izmir. According to the car wash attendees, Linda comes by the car wash two to three times a week to take advantage of their "automatic petting machine."

In areas like Izmir, stray dogs are relatively common. Owners dump these animals along the side of the road, leaving them to fend for themselves. Other times, a female dog's owner fails to have their pet properly vetted and spayed, which results in a litter of puppies. Unwilling to care for these animals once they're capable of living on their own, individuals will take the litter to a local park or other "safe" location.

Therefore, the sighting of a stray dog is not uncommon in these areas of Turkey. For stray animals, however, life can be a little bit difficult. By nature, dogs are relatively social animals and are typically happiest when frequently receiving affection, attention, and care.

However, living on the streets, dogs may also find that they struggle to form bonds and connections with other humans. It's difficult for stray animals to tell which individuals will give them the affection they desire and which will lash out simply because they approached. Over time, stray dogs may even become afraid of humans.

If a fear develops, these animals must take care of themselves. They will need to find a safe place to sleep and rest, locate and access food, and source clean drinking water to survive. In dogs with longer fur or thicker coats, staying clean can also be a challenge in and of itself. While dogs can keep themselves partially clean, matted fur can become problematic over time.

Linda, a german shepherd mix, has learned how to solve quite a few of these problems on her own. Having watched her come multiple days a week for over a month, the car wash employees caught her routine on camera. This stray dog knows she needs to do to take advantage of the store's "automatic petting machine."

Each time she arrives at the car wash, she waits patiently for a vehicle to pull in. Once the car wash starts, she places herself a few feet behind the car and waits. As the car wash powers up, the top roller spins over the back of the car. Linda stands between the bristles of the spinning roller, stretching and moving against it. Her reaction to the car wash is similar to a house dog's reaction to getting the best pets ever.

Once Linda finishes using the petting machine, and effectively, getting a bath, she steps away from the roller, shaking herself off to remove excess water. Now that she's gotten the affection she likely craves and the bath she most likely needed to stay healthy, she wanders away to find a place to finish drying off.

What do you think about the video? Would it make you nervous to know a stray dog was standing behind your car in the car wash? Or would you be filming her out of your back window, as well? Let us know in the comments and be sure to pass this along to your loved ones.
