In 2016, Animal Aid Unlimited, an animal rescue based in India, received a call about a sick dog lying helplessly on the side of the road after she had collapsed in the rain.

When the rescue workers arrived, they found the dog, who they named Millie, unable to move out of the pouring rain. They took her in and put her on the hard, long road to recovery. Her carers documented her journey back to health and shared it on Youtube, where it has since garnered over 800,000 views.

A Sad Discovery

When the rescue workers arrived at the scene, they found a stray female dog collapsed at the side of a busy road. It was a cold and rainy day, yet the poor pup was seemingly unable to muster the strength to get up.

The dog looks up at the rescuer but doesn't move away, re-affirming that she couldn't get up. With the rain falling, the rescuer comes over to the dog and kneels beside her slowly. After a moment, he takes some food out of his pocket and puts it in front of the dog. She sniffs it but puts her head back on the ground sadly. The rescuer knows something is wrong with this canine because she won't move and won't eat.

The Rescue Team Moves into Action

In the video, the rescue worker gets a blanket and slowly wraps it around the dog. The pooch seems too tired and sick to put up any resistance. They put her in the back of the van and take off. Watching the video gives you the sense that this dog is seriously ill and in danger.

A Serious Infection

The rescuers brought the dog back to their headquarters to get checked by the vet. Upon examination, the vets found she was suffering from pyometra, an infection of the uterus that can lead to septicemia and possible death.

The animal was in desperate need of surgery, but the veterinarians didn't believe she would survive the procedure in her state. Efforts began right away to stabilize the pup. They gave her antibiotics and did what they could to bring the dog to a stable enough condition so they could operate.

Upon surgery, the surgeons removed the dog's infected uterus to find it was five times the standard size. If rescuers hadn't found her when they had, she probably would not have survived much longer. With the surgery over, only time would tell how the dog would recover.

A Happy Ending

With an infection so advanced, the veterinary health professionals had to monitor this canine's recovery quite closely. Shortly after the surgery, the dog began to show signs of life. On the first day after her procedure, the pup sat up and began to eat. She ate hungrily, obviously starved after living on the streets, and unable to seek nourishment because of how ill the infection had made her.

The fact that she was alive was cause for celebration, but the story doesn't end there. When you watch the video, you can see footage of the dog today. She has been named Millie, and she seems to be loving life. Millie is a happy dog. In the footage, viewers can see that she eagerly seeks out cuddles from the people around her. This canine certainly doesn't mind being the center of attention.

She is so full of life and has come a long way from the dog rescue workers once found on a rainy day on the side of a street.

When you watch her prancing about and being playful, it's hard to believe that she is the same dog as the stray who was once that ill.
