Stray Dog Dubbed 'Werewolf' Lived On The Street For Months Before Brave Woman Decides To Help

When residents of Madera Rancho, California, saw what they dubbed a 'werewolf' on the side of the road, nobody was brave enough to stop and help the poor creature out.

That was until Megan, the founder of Bowe’s Adoptable Rescue Pups, saw a post about the animal making rounds on social media and decided to take matters into her own hands. 

Speaking to the Dodo, Megan said she was heartbroken when she first saw the dog.

“I was about ready to cry when I saw how bad off he was,” Bowe, founder of Bowe’s Adoptable Rescue Pups, told the publication. “He was really on his last leg. He was depressed and could barely even stand up.”

The animal in question was not a werewolf or other monster out of a horror movie, but a stray German shepherd with numerous health problems. Getting close to the stricken pup, Megan saw that most of his fur was gone, replaced by scaly, unhealthy skin. The big guy also had a thick mane around his neck, which accounted for descriptions that he was a werewolf.

With tears in her eyes from the poor dog’s plight, Megan took him to her local veterinarian for a full checkup. Megan thinks that the dog, who she named King, might have been near death when she found him as he didn’t run away or try to fight as she put him in her car. Megan’s vet did a full review of King’s health, determining that he was suffering from mange and scabies and had a broken tail and damaged pelvis. Megan says that the vet thinks these injuries were caused by a car accident. King was also extremely emaciated and dehydrated.

Thankfully, King is now getting the medical treatment he needs under Megan’s care. Although King has to be quarantined because mange can spread, Megan describes him as a sweet, loving animal. The two shared a great bond in the six weeks of intensive care needed before King was strong enough to have his first surgery.

“He’s a super loving dog,” she said. “If I sit down, he has his face right next to mine and leans in as if he’s giving me a hug."

King has since made a miraculous recovery and has been adopted by the Bisbee family, who followed his story through social media. 

“We’d never seen any dog in such bad shape as he was,” Tiana Bisbee told The Dodo. “It was so sad. I had been watching his progress, so that’s when we knew we wanted to meet him.”

“We thought he might be really scared from what he went through, but he was just so sweet,” she added. “His hair had grown back completely and he looked so healthy.”

The Brisbee's also have another three dogs, with whom King gets along quite well. 

“It took him about a month to learn from the girls how to be a dog,” Bisbee explained. “He fit in with the pack really well. They’ve taught him the ways of the yard and the house. He’ll bark at people they bark at, he’ll run where they run. It’s so fun to watch them play together.”
