Stray Dog Begs For Money, Buys Himself Hot Dog

Sep 18, 2018 by apost team

Street dogs need street smarts to survive, and one clever pup took his survival skills to the next level when his keen observation skills helped him land a meal. The stray has been a local in the Mexican town of Tezoyuca for years, and residents have affectionately named him Cabron, which means "dumbass" in Spanish.

Cabron has been around people for so long that he's picked up some of their mannerisms. Rather than rifling through trash for some scraps, he's learned to cuddle up to patrons of a hot dog stand and get some coins to cash in for a meal of his own.

In a video posted by a man named Sergio Vasquez, Cabron eagerly wags his tail and approaches people in line for their lunch. When customers hand over some coins, Cabron takes his earnings and trots to the front of the line to exchange his money for a hot dog.

The hot dog vendor is unfazed by the exchange, treating Cabron just like any other customer.

Vasquez, however, was awestruck by the dog's intelligence and couldn't believe how he managed to pick up on the act. He can even be overheard on the video asking how someone taught Cabron to do such a thing. Vasquez later logged on Facebook to post the video along with a description of his experience. He introduces Cabron and explains that when you arrive at the stand, the pooch will scratch your leg until you give him a coin that he can exchange for a sausage.

Cabron's video has been shared over 14 million times and now, he's been dubbed "Sausage Dog" on the internet by impressed viewers.

Perhaps what's even more endearing than Cabron himself is the awareness his actions have spread about the true intelligence of dogs. People underestimate canines' ability to think, feel and adapt to their environments, but dogs like Cabron demonstrate that they're far more capable than we realize.

Many people were upset about Cabron and worried that he'd spend the rest of his life on the street begging for money, but he was adopted by the owner of the shop with the stand. Cabron's love of hot dogs probably won't ever change, and even if he has a place to call home, the dog loves people and bringing smiles to their faces as they wait for their meals.
