Stray Cat Returns To Woman Who Fed Her, Shows Her Where's She Hid Her Kittens

Vanessa is a New York home owner who cares for and welcomes cats who live in the area. And it's not just a few. It seems like every cat in the neighborhood stops by. She even jokes that there's a "kitty billboard" somewhere that advertises her home to these felines since so many come to her.

Recently, Vanessa noticed a pregnant tortoiseshell cat had started coming around. She was initially hesitant to eat anything but ultimately warmed up to Vanessa. Then she stopped showing up.

It was clear to Vanessa that the cat must have given birth, and this was confirmed when Mama, the name that she had given her, finally returned to Vanessa's relief, no longer pregnant. However, she was worried about the kittens as she knew how dangerous it could be for them in the wild. However, Mama continued acting standoffish and protective as, after "eating up a storm," she would not immediately leave so that she wouldn't be followed before sneaking away later.

In what proved to be a strategic and health-related move, Vanessa started feeding Mama three times a day and, several days later, Mama allowed her to pet her for the first time. The trust gradually increased over the coming days, and she finally let Vanessa see where she had been keeping her four kittens. They were described as "one ginger, one tux, one tortie and ... one gray tabby." Only a few days later, Mama moved her kittens to a neighbor's window well.

Eventually, Vanessa was able to find the latest hideout, scooped up the kittens and took them to a safer area inside the home. The five of them appear to be much more relaxed, and Mama is taking more and more breaks from the kittens now that they're safer and are also getting older.

Vanessa updates her instagram page about how Mama and the kittens are doing. One recent post stated, "So when I take the babies out #mama goes into the cage to get away, but the moment they notice her inside they break back into the cage to be with her! #NewMama #MamaTo4 #SomeoneNeedsABreak."
