Who would steal from a dying man? Who would take a beloved companion from someone who collapses in public? That person would be Melody Mellon.

Robert Corbey was taking a walk with his dog, Sampson, who happens to be a Chihuahua and a certified therapy dog. The 59-year-old man suddenly collapsed near a dumpster with an apparent seizure. People wanted to see what is going on and rushed in to help the poor guy.

One person rushed in to do something else, however: walk away with Sampson.

A nearby video camera captured the action. As most bystanders were helping Robert, Melody Mellon picked up the dog's leash and walked away reported Inside Edition. The dog seemed confused and can be seen looking back at his owner. It's the last time the dog would see Robert alive.

Within a short time, an ambulance arrived to help Robert. He was rushed to a hospital, but sadly passed away. He left behind a loving family who wondered why someone would be so heartless as to steal a dog from a dying man.

Robert's niece, Kelly, watched the video surveillance footage, but didn't recognize the person who had walked away with Sampson.

The good news is that Mellon was found a few days later. She had been sleeping in a stolen truck with Sampson by her side. The police arrested her, while Sampson got checked out at the vet.

He got a clean bill of health. However, his favorite human was gone. Robert's niece, Kelly, took the dog to the funeral home to say goodbye. It was to give closure to everyone in the family.
