An alarm system can really give you peace of mind. You may have a smart doorbell installed, a surveillance camera overlooking your doorway, or floodlights brightening up your front porch. Whatever you have, we are hoping that it deters intruders from breaking into your home. However, one lady found that despite having a smart doorbell, an intruder still managed to make his way in.

A man was caught on video crawling through the doggie door of a California woman’s home. Lexie Linberg, the homeowner, was home with her guard dog when the attempted robbery occurred. She is glad she is able to warn others about what happened.

Lexie was upstairs with her poodle, Stella, when her smart doorbell alerted her to a motion on her front porch. She figured it was just a delivery person and did not check it out. However, she then received an alert that there was motion at her back door. That is when she realized that someone was trying to get into her house.

Lexie talked to Inside Edition about how scared she was. She couldn’t believe that a man would be able to physically fit through a door meant for a dog. She proceeded to be as loud as possible to alert him to the fact someone was home. She also let her dog loose to go after him. Luckily, the man heard the commotion and fled her home.

It is important to install the right kind of dog door if you must have one. Many come with built-in locks that should always be secured when you aren’t home and at night. Others work with a microchip that can be put on the collar of your animal. When your cat or dog gets near the door, it will open.

A pet door should also be installed in an area that is less obvious to strangers. If you can, install one through your wall instead of a typical door. Intruders may not realize it is there if they do not see one in a door.

Keep these simple tips in mind if you have an animal that uses a doggy door. You do not want an intruder using yours to break into your home.

Check out the video of the intruder below. We are very happy that she is okay!
