Debbie Phillips tagged along with her ten-year-old son, Leon, for shopping only to later arrive at an incident she would describe as “unimaginable.” Debbie chose to visit a local Asda store located in Hunt’s Cross, a district in Liverpool, where Leon came across an item that caught his eye.

The attraction that seemed to leave Leon in love was a unique toy panda on the shelf. Leon instantly knew that the “Lovable Huggable Panda” had already declared its charms on him. Leon knew that he had found his partner and was determined to take the panda home, leaving no chances for the panda to end up in any other child’s room apart from his.

Unfortunately, the panda’s price of $15 was not on the budget of Leon’s mother, which only meant that he would have to wait until the next payday. The news left Leon unsatisfied. He promised himself to eventually hatch a plan to have the toy and even gave it the name “Pandy.”

Leon planned to insert Pandy in a box made of cardboard and leave it on the shelf. Slowly and carefully, he started to express his emotions in words and wrote a note on the box. Leon’s emotions translated to a note that read as follows: “My mum does not have anuff cash, so she's byeng me Panda next week on 15th June. So please don't bye him it will make me cry--thank you so much from his future owner. Pandas name is Pandy.”

Seeing how Leon was determined to make the panda toy his, the staff at the store felt touched by the little boy’s determination while reading the note on the cardboard box. They came together, chipped in with funds, and decided to make Leon’s dream a reality. To locate Leon, they posted Pandy’s temporary home with a note on the box and spread the message on social media platforms.

Debbie on the other hand, busy minding her business, came across the viral post on Facebook on what seemed somewhat familiar to her. It was the panda that Leon wanted to carry home with him plus his handwriting on the cardboard box explaining how badly he wanted Pandy.

Since the message has found its rightful owner, Debbie headed back to the store with Leon. The employees who had helped to make the dream a reality waited eagerly to present Pandy. Everyone was excited with Leon’s undying determination. Leon was equally excited and happy to see how much the staff at the store went an extra mile to make his dream a reality. “This is the best day of my life!” Leon told his mum while heading to the store to pick up Pandy.

The kind gesture from store workers came at the right time. Leon’s family had been grieving the loss of Leon’s youngest brother. The loss of Debbie’s son made a significant effect on the kids as they had been so instrumental in following up to their sibling’s arrival.

The kindness shown by the Asda family meant so much to Debbie’s family; it brought up something they could smile about. For sure, Pandy and Pandy’s journey to become a family member was the chosen element of surprise that would bring back smiles into Leon’s family.

Leon’s story shows how kindness can go a long way, no matter how simple it may seem. Pass this along to others who could use a pick-me-up!
