Store Supervisor Employs Homeless Lady Staying In Parking Lot

Last year, Tennesee-resident Lashenda Williams was homeless. She was sleeping overnight in her car in the parking lot of Kroger’s grocery store. A manager noticed Williams’s situation and encouraged her to attend the store’s job fair. Williams filled out an application, and the manager hired her. This turn of events changed her life, and she is no longer homeless.

Jackie Vandal is a hiring manager at a Kroger grocery store in Nashville, Tennessee, as USA Today reports. She noticed Lashenda Williams had been sleeping in the store parking lot for a year.
Lashenda Williams told USA Today that she was battling drug addiction. She would spend the days driving to different locations and sleeping at night in the car at the Kroger parking lot.
Williams reminisces about leaning her seat all the way back so no one would see her. She was not supposed to be sleeping in the parking lot.

At the end of the year, Jackie Vandal encouraged Williams to attend an upcoming job fair. It took Williams a few hours to fill out the applications, but she received help from Vandal.
When Vandal saw the message that Williams had successfully applied, she hired her on the spot. Williams shared with USA Today in early September that she had been at Kroger for eight months now. She proudly stated, “It’s a great day!”
You could see the happiness flowing over from Williams. She was smiling from ear to ear. William is excited to come to work every day. She also cannot wait to see her coworkers and customers.
Her uplifting spirit has been a blessing to the staff. Vandal told WKRN that Williams is an excellent worker and wish she had 120 more just like her.
Melissa Eads told Today that they are lucky to have Williams a part of the Kroger family. She is the corporate affairs manager and feels Williams's spirit is contagious.
Eads talked about how Williams had a positive impact on her team members and customers.
Enthusiasm comes easy for Williams after everything that she has been through. Williams also talked about sleeping in her car while looking for food in her interview with USA Today. She referred to her people at Kroger as her babies and how they all love on her. Williams said, "For the first time in my life, I finally got peace."
