Stop Tolerating These 9 Things And Start Respecting Yourself
Jan 02, 2019 by apost team
There have been times in our lives where we question whether or not someone's behavior is tolerable or not. It can be especially difficult to know when the questionable actions come from people you admire or trust. In order to care for yourself, it's important to recognize what behavioral traits should and shouldn't be tolerated. It is even more difficult when we find ourselves indulging in these actions and hurting ourselves. Don't worry. Here are nine behaviors to avoid in order to love yourself.
1. Staying Within Your Comfort Zone

The comfort zone. It is a safe place to fall back on in times of change and uncertainty. It's normal for us. However, think of all the greatest achievers that have ever lived. People must've thought the Wright brothers were crazy when they talked about flying. Rosa Parks was told to sit at the back of the bus because of her ethnicity, but did she? Of course not. What do the Wright brothers and Ms. Parks have in common? All three of them stepped outside of their comfort zones in order to pursue something that was important to them. If you have a dream or goal, don't let your fears hold you back.

2. Letting People Take Control Of Your Life

We've all dealt with people who are a little controlling. The dentist tells you to brush your teeth twice a day. Teachers tell you to do your homework. These are all a part of life. That's not the control I'm talking about. If someone is trying to control every aspect of your life, that's an issue. Only you have the ultimate say in how your life goes.
3. Negative Thoughts About Yourself

Having a negative opinion of yourself will cause immense problems throughout your life. Self-deprecating humor may be popular right now, but it's a cheap way to be funny. Additionally, your self-love will diminish. Now, if you want to lead a negative outlook on life then go right on ahead with the self-hatred. But, if you want more positive vibes coming your way, cut the self-loathing parties.
4. Not Pursuing Happiness

This seems pretty obvious, but you may be surprised. Are you actively doing things that make you happy? If not, why aren't you? In this day and age, it's incredibly easy to get caught up in leading a mediocre life. If your life is a movie, it should be so great it doesn't need a sequel. What a great life means, depends on you. Don't do something that makes you unhappy because of what your family, friends, or society thinks. There is a difference between surviving and thriving. Make sure to take the time to thrive in your life.
5. Pleasing Others

People pleasing is a huge problem that needs to be addressed. You are not on this Earth to satisfy everyone and their dogs' puppies. Serving others, such as volunteering and charity, isn't what I'm talking about here. But compromising your own happiness for the sake of others isn't okay. Additionally, if people tell you that your dreams are not realistic or important. Don't listen to them. What is realistic to one person is completely ridiculous to another. Follow your heart, not the opinions of those around you.
6. Ignoring Your Health

Make sure you're taking care of your health. You may brush off any symptoms, but don't do this. If you're feeling a bit under the weather, it's okay to take a break and time for yourself. People feel obligated to go to school or work even when they have the flu and feel like dying. But that's ridiculous. In addition, it's not just your physical health that is important, your mental and emotional health needs care as well.
7. Hating Your Job

Ah, you think your job is terrible? It seems impossible to have a job that pays well and one you love. Maybe it is impossible. Just kidding, it totally isn't! Your dream job may not be apparent at first, but keep searching for it. The need to pay your bills and other necessities is a priority. At the very least, try to find a job that doesn't negatively impact your emotional, mental, and physical health.
8. Being Lazy

Laziness may just be your kryptonite. It's very easy to wake up in the afternoon and spend time on Instagram all day. Sitting around instead of putting in hard work to accomplish your dreams is no way to live. Self-control and self-discipline are key concepts to kicking laziness in the butt. Try disabling your social media accounts for a month. You're guaranteed to be more productive. Additionally, try taking one small step towards your goal. If you want to lose 60 pounds, try drinking more water or eating more veggies.
9. Fitting In

Do not try to change who you are in order to fit in with other people. Losing yourself is a huge tragedy. No one else is you. Even if you and your identical twin act the same way, you all are still your own individuals. The fact that you are even alive is incredible. Learning to appreciate your flaws can be hard, but with time and effort, it will happen.
Loving yourself is a journey, not an overnight achievement. The first step is to get rid of old habits that are inhibiting you from making progress. After you rid yourself of toxic behaviors, your life will be a whole lot better.
