1. Natural Mouthwash and Fresheners

You can use baking soda as a natural mouthwash. All you need to do is take one teaspoon of the powder, dissolve it in a warm cup of water, and then rinse your mouth out with it. Also, dip a small amount of the soda onto your toothbrush and then brush your teeth.

Another way to get minty-smelling breath is to, you guessed it, chew on mint leaves! You can also fight bad mouth odor by chewing on cloves, fennel seeds, and cardamom.

2. Drink Plenty of Water

We all know the benefits of staying hydrated, but not everyone realizes that we need water to help our salivary glands work right. Water also helps to prevent bacteria from growing in the mouth, something that can cause bad breath. Make sure to drink two liters or more of water every day. Don’t drink anything sugary at night as sugary drinks assist the buildup of bacteria.

3. Brush Twice and Floss Once

Proper brushing and flossing will remove food that can get stuck between the teeth, causing odors to form. Many people do not brush and floss enough and this can easily contribute to foul mouth odors. Make sure that you brush your teeth twice a day for at least two minutes at a time and floss at least one time.

4. Watch Your Diet

Garlic and onions can cause bad breath pretty quickly. However, studies have shown that consuming onions in moderation will actually destroy four strains of bacteria that are known to cause gum disease and tooth decay. You should also stay away from foods that encourage the growth of bacteria, such as those that contain high levels of acidic acid or fructose.

5. Chew Fruit Peels

Buy some fresh citrus fruits, such as lemons and oranges, and rinse them off well. Peel the fruit and then chew on the peel. The citrus acid in the fruit will cause your salivary glands to work overtime, producing more saliva. This saliva is your mouth’s number one natural defense against tooth decay and bad breath. Plus, your mouth will immediately taste fresh and clean!

6. Scrape Your Tongue

Not everyone realizes that scraping the tongue can get rid of the bacteria that causes bad breath. After you are done brushing your teeth, use a tongue scraper or your toothbrush to scrape off the top of your tongue.

7. Keep Your Gums Healthy

Gum disease is a well-known cause of bad breath. Brush with a toothpaste that contains fluoride to keep your gums healthy. If you smoke, quit, as smoking is strongly associated with a weakened immune system and gum-related issues.
