Famous R&B singer Stevie Wonder is putting his tour on hold to undergo a kidney transplant. The singer broke the news on Saturday in England during the British Summer Time Hyde Park music festival. He told the crowd he still has three more shows left before undergoing the transplant in September.

Aleem Maqbool, a BBC correspondent, caught Stevie on camera during the music festival telling the audience:

“So what’s gonna happen is this: I’m going to have surgery. I’m going to have a kidney transplant in September of this year.”

The crowd quieted down at first and then broke out into applause. Stevie added that he wanted to announce the news himself before rumors swirled.

“You ain’t got to hear no rumors about nothing; I told you what’s up — I’m good,” Stevie told the audience he's already found a donor.

Rumors had been swirling. Before his announcement on Saturday, sources close to the singer told the Detroit Free Press that Stevie has been traveling with a medical team and dealing with a "serious but manageable" health issue.  Patty Jackson, a radio personality from Philadelphia, even said last month that Stevie had begun dialysis and was suffering from kidney failure. But Wonder’s publicist declined to comment at that time.

Stevie’s longtime friend, Joan Belgrave told Detroit Free Press “he knows what he has to do to get himself together, and he’s doing it,” adding “he’s got a team around him — that’s what he needs.”

Belgrave said it best: “Let him be Stevie. Let him be magical and share the love he shares.”
