In a spontaneous and heartfelt moment that quickly captured public attention, 21-year-old Robert Irwin discovered that his late father Steve Irwin's adventure movie, “The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course,” was available on the plane’s entertainment system. The conservationist, TV host, and youngest member of the Irwin clan posted a short clip on June 22, 2025, to commemorate the moment.
Steve Irwin, popularly known as the Crocodile Hunter, was one of the most beloved people on the planet, with many still touched by his gentle nature. In detail, he tragically passed away in 2006 after getting pierced in the chest by a stingray while filming in Australia. At the time, Robert was only two years old. Although his memories of his father are limited, Robert has often spoken about the lasting influence Steve has had on his life.
“Every morning, it didn’t matter rain, hail or shine, he’d load up Bindi and I on the front of his motorbike and we’d go rip around the Zoo and get ice cream," he recalled. Not to mention that Robert’s memories of his father remain precious and filled with love: “So I just remember being on the front of the motorbike, covered in ice cream, just loving life." Fortunately, Steve's family is keeping his memory alive and his work going at the Australia Zoo and around the world.
When Robert stumbled upon his father’s film while cruising at 35,000 feet on an international flight, he felt like he had stumbled into fate. Naturally, he pressed play — and shared a video of the moment on Instagram, sparking a wave of nostalgia and admiration from fans around the world.

“Collision Course,” the 2002 film starring Steve and Terri Irwin, was a larger-than-life action-comedy based on the popular “Crocodile Hunter” television series. In typical Irwin fashion, the film combined conservation messaging with daring wildlife encounters, following the couple as they tried to protect a crocodile that unknowingly swallowed a secret government device. Despite its lighthearted tone, the movie underscored the family’s serious commitment to wildlife education — a cause that remains at the core of their work today.
In the video posted on Instagram, Robert gives a beaming thumbs-up to the movie selection, paired perfectly with the feel-good tune “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. He captioned the video:
"When the in-flight movie selection is elite 👌"
Robert's sister Bindi Irwin commented on the sentimental post:
"The best 🙌."
The post garnered over half a million likes, with many fans of the Irwins, with one adorably commenting:
"Just a boy. On a flight with his dad❤️"
Another social media user praised the young Irwin for continuing with his father’s lifelong work and inheriting the same love for animals and nature that Steve had:
"Blessed to still be able to see his dad doing his thing."
In February 2025, during an appearance on the Australian talk show "The Project," Robert honored his father’s birthday, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from fans nearly two decades after Steve's passing:
“It was his birthday yesterday, what would have been his birthday, and it’s always amazing to me to see the global reaction and impact that dad has till this day."
He continued:
"It’s very, very special.”
Many fans are proud of the work he is doing and feel honored that he is keeping his father’s memory alive.
