Starbucks Barista Who Trained As An Opera Singer In Italy Belts Out Glorious Voice In Coffee Shop

Jason Berger trained as an opera singer in Italy.

The barista showcased his operatic voice in video last month while he was on shift at the Starbucks in Delaware where he works.

A coffee run turned opera concert. That's what happened at a Starbucks in Wilmington, Delaware. 28-year-old Jason Berger was on shift when one of his customers requested for him to belt out a little something at the coffee shop to which Jason gladly obliged.

“Jason [had previously] noticed my husband’s accent and mentioned that he studied opera in Italy (he’s conversant in Italian). My husband was shocked at how good his Italian is and he loves opera, so he asked him to sing! We were blown away at his talent," Kaylan Wetzel, the customer's wife said.

Jason then broke out into a heart-swelling and jaw-dropping opera song. As he joyfully serenaded the cafe customers with an aria, Kaylan recorded him. She shared the exceptional snippet of the song on her facebook page.

The Italian word ‘aria’ simply means ‘air’. According to classical-music.com, in opera, it is customary to use the term ‘aria’ to distinguish this kind of formally rounded song––the kind of thing you could extract and sing on its––from the fluid, dramatic, speech-imitating recitativo style.

Everyone who was in the cafe got to enjoy a world-class opera performance free-of-charge, all thanks to Jason and the customer who made the special singing request.

Jason has trained extensively in the music field and has a graduate vocal performance diploma from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University in 2018. He shared,

“My dream is to be a soloist at major opera houses across the globe, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, and as musical theater is a passion of mine as well, I would love to be in a Broadway show.”

In addition to working two jobs, Jason serves as a tenor section leader in the choir at Westminster Presbyterian Church and works as a freelance singer.

Jason is incredibly talented. We wish we were at the coffee shop when this happened. Pass this story to your friends and family to let them in on this wonderful moment.
