When Manny Correa and Amanda Disley saw an Amber Alert for a missing 11-year-old child, the couple likely didn’t expect that they would ever see the little girl or have a role in her return.
Since the Springfield, Massachusetts couple was out eating with their five children, they hugged them a little tighter. But then, everything changed. The family noticed a blue Honda Civic that fit the description of the kidnapper’s car on the Amber Alert.
As soon as they saw the car, Manny threw his own vehicle in reverse to try to block the car, forcing the kidnapper to take his vehicle over the curb. When the high beams lit up the inside of the other vehicle, Manny and Amanda could recognize the driver as the kidnapper and saw him shove someone else down in the backseat, according to Good Morning America.

Manny said that, as a father, he knew that he had to take action to save the missing girl. The family took off after the car, speeding through red lights and doing everything in their power to keep up with the suspicious vehicle. They were on a mission to provide the authorities with the license plate number and they wouldn’t give up until they were close enough to read it!
Amanda says that it was instinct that led them to participate in the chase, and that “fight or flight” played a tremendous role.
When the couple began to run out of gasoline, they finally had to stop their part in the chase; however, the information that they provided was exactly what the State Police needed to track down the kidnapper and rescue the little girl, Good Morning America continues.
The child’s family issued a special statement of thanks to Amanda and Manny, pointing out the couple’s vigilance and courage as they risked their own safety to save the kidnapped girl.
The 11-year-old, named Charlotte Moccia, had been kidnapped when she got off the bus and encountered 24-year-old Miguel Rodriguez. Witnesses that saw the kidnapping say that Miguel got out and grabbed the little girl, throwing her in the backseat while she screamed. While it was a tussle to get her in the car, he picked her up and tossed her in, ABC News reports.
It’s horrific to think what could have happened to Charlotte if she hadn’t been rescued. Thank goodness for the efforts of the police and the help of regular citizens Amanda and Manny.
It's truly inspiring to see the actions of normal citizens when it comes to something as precious as the life of a child. How would you have reacted in this situation?
