You only have one life. It makes sense to live as happily as possible. Development is needed for growth and advancement, personally, professionally, and spiritually.

The people in your life play a significant role in how you form opinions and make decisions. While you might be on a similar path with family and friends, everyone is on their own individual growth path. Unfortunately, that path sometimes veers off in a different direction than our own. Here are six personality traits in friends that could be hindering your growth.

1. The Show-Off

Identifying the 'show-off' in your life is the easiest. This personality type seeks constant attention and recognition. Show-offs want validation for everything from their hairstyle, their clothes, their car, to the number of followers they have on social media profiles. Sadly, this desire for approval could be a deep-rooted sign of low self-esteem, insecurity, or a lapse of self-love and approval. Instead of self-acceptance, show-offs seek the acceptance of others.
2. The Faultfinder

A faultfinder can find something wrong in nearly any situation. Their negative energy can literally drain you of enthusiasm or optimism! Faultfinders are quick to complain. Instead of living in the moment, dealing with situations as-is, they get on a soapbox and grumble about their feelings of unhappiness. After spending time with this personality type, you could find yourself feeling angry, dissatisfied, or in a worse mood.
3. The Eccentric

Eccentrics aren't bad people, they are just unpredictable. Their behavior is changeable. Eccentrics might cancel plans last minute without consideration to others, or show up and sit alone quietly using their phone. They might not be trying to be inconsiderate, but somehow, they are.
4. The Defeatist

A defeatist can quickly and easily come up with a hundred reasons why your plans or ideas won't work. While it isn't a bad idea to have a 'wet blanket' influencer in your life to evaluate and give balance to your viewpoints, a defeatist is never objective. Their lackluster approach to life rules out taking risks, even to pursue a dream.
5. The Skeptic

Associating with a skeptic can be worse than a defeatist. The reason? Skeptics act supportive of your ambitions and goals on the one hand. But on the other hand, they're happy to revel in your challenges and struggles. And they don't think twice about identifying and discussing your shortcomings, making you feel more stressed out and second-guessing yourself and your decisions.
6. The Troublemaker

The troublemaker is the worst personality type of the bunch. Bad things always seem to happen to troublemakers. Misfortune follows in their footsteps due to making poor life decisions. To avoid personal and professional setbacks, limit time with troublemakers. Don't walk their path. If relationships in your life aren't working, evaluate whether they're healthy and productive.
