As a senior in high school, one of the most exhilarating things that can happen is being named to the homecoming court. Being named the king or queen can be an immense honor for a student.
However, for one Colorado high school, being named the homecoming king didn’t stop this high schooler from taking off his crown after being given the title. At first, no one understood why he did it.

People Were in Tears After They Discovered Why Brad Cooley Gave Up The Title
Brad Cooley of Douglas County High School was made king while Meghan Bailey was named the queen of the school. Meghan has cerebral palsy that stops her from speaking out loud.
After the other students discovered why Brad decided to take off the crown, they were flabbergasted. It all began when Meghan met her best friend Ian Brennan twelve years prior to the event. They had been friends since kindergarten.
Ian Brennan and Meghan had planned to go to the dance together, but they never expected this!
Everyone adored Ian, who also had a form of disability. He has a form of Down syndrome, but that didn’t stop Ian and Meghan from planning to go to homecoming together.
When the evening of the dance came around, Brad realized that there was someone who deserved the crown more than him. He claims that it didn’t feel right for him, he felt like someone else was more worthy of the crown.
Heidi Bailey, Meghan’s mother started to cry after she discovered what Brad did for Ian.
Even Ian’s father couldn’t believe the generosity gifted to their son. They were shocked and overwhelmed by how special the memory was.
It was particularly special because Ian’s mother had passed away a few months before the dance after being diagnosed with liver cancer. Jim revealed that she would have been in tears discovering her son was crowned homecoming king.
Ian’s father revealed that his wife was one of his heroes and he will miss her every day. Ian’s father revealed how meaningful this gift was at the time. He recognized that the world needs people like Brad to help make the world a better place for his son and everyone else.
