Those who are intellectually disabled usually find themselves enjoying the freedom and compassion from the public that they deserve. Most of us are thrilled to see those who may have limitations and disabilities thrive in this harsh world, but you would be surprised to learn that not everyone has the same feelings as you do! Many people don’t understand how hard it is for people with disabilities to function in the world today.

Check out this episode of “What Would You Do” with John Quinones. Will you see people ignoring another customer who is harassing a disabled man who is simply trying to order his meal? Or will they try to defend the disabled man from the abuser instead?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and the National Down Syndrome Society, one out of 700 babies is born with Down syndrome. This condition is the most common chromosomal condition in the United States. Every year, more than 6,000 babies come into the world with this disease. Luckily, there are hundreds of resources that are available for those suffering from Down syndrome.

The country wants to make sure that this group is given the support and opportunities that are necessary to get by in the world! Men and women with Down syndrome can hold jobs and take care of themselves with help and support. Many are currently holding positions in the government sector and are helping to shape our society!

Unfortunately, there are still small-minded individuals out there who do not understand the intellectually disabled community, as you will soon see in the video!

Unfortunately, this is exactly the case at this restaurant when a man with Down syndrome sat down at a table to order a meal. But when the server started to explain some of the menu items to the young man, another customer gets impatient and begins to verbally harass him instead of helping him. No one in the restaurant could believe what they were hearing and seeing!

Check out how some of the restaurant patrons handled the rude man in the video below. What would you have done in this situation?

Do you have any stories about someone you know with Down syndrome? Please tell us about them and pass this video along!
