Southwest Airlines Flight Attendant Sings 'You Raise Me Up' To Mother Of Killed State Trooper

It has been said that only the good die young. Perhaps that is the best way to remember 24-year-old Tyler Edenhofer, an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper who died in the final days of his field training, gunned down on I-10. He had been a trooper for just 52 days.

When Edenhofer’s mother, Debbie Edenhofer, boarded a Southwest Airlines flight, one of the airline's employees stopped to sing "You Raise Me Up" to her acapella.

She was flying out of Phoenix, Arizona to attend a ceremony honoring her son in his hometown of Jeffersontown, Kentucky. Jeffersontown officials dedicated a park bench to Tyler Edenhofer to commemorate his life of service.

Ms. Edenhofer likely would have been quietly carrying her grief alone had the attendant not decided to publicly display his appreciation for her son's sacrifice, as well as her sacrifice. When one gives their life in the line of duty, it impacts the entire family.

The moment was recorded by Sean Warren, a fellow passenger on the flight. He then posted it online, saying “...I think we should have more interruptions like this. In fact, it is no interruption at all.” 

He continued: "To the mother.....”Thank you” seems so utterly inadequate. May you be blessed daily in your thoughts of your son’s service and sacrifice. May heaven give you in abundance what you missed here on earth."

Honoring the life of those whose blood helps preserve our freedom and safety is perhaps something we should do far more often.

Remembering to take a moment to count our blessings and notice the good in the world is known to have mental health benefits.
