A transition of power within the royal family is expected to happen sooner rather than later. Prince Charles is readying himself to take over the reins from his mother, Queen Elizabeth.
Queen Elizabeth will celebrate her 95th birthday in 18 months. This is the same age that Prince Phillip, her husband, retired from his royal duties, setting a precedent for the queen.

According to The Sun, it is already becoming apparent that Charles is ready to be the Shadow King for his mother. The queen has already reduced a significant amount of her royal duties and official appearances over the last few years. In her place, Prince Charles and his son Prince William have taken on a greater role in the public face.

In addition to these two taking more duties on, there is speculation that Prince Harry will also take on a bigger role in the years to come along with his wife Meghan Markle.
According to the British tabloid, the queen had 283 engagements in 2018 which was 49 short from her 332 engagements in 2016. However, Charles impressively took on 507 engagements.

The inside source also told The Sun that Prince Charles has been having talks with William about the future. "They both know what he wants to do with the kingship. There’s no doubt Charles will also be pulling Prince Harry and Meghan into line once they return from their private break.”
