Soul Of Abandoned Broken Dog Salvaged With Touch Of Kindness

Hope for Paws is an organization well known for saving the lives of countless stray dogs and posting about their transformations online.

In this endearing video, a scared and shaggy dog manages to remember what it's like to love and be loved. If you watch until the end, you won't believe that you're looking at the same dog from the beginning of the story.

The hero of this video is an adorable fluffy dog who now goes by the name of Theo. But at the time of filming, the little pup didn't have a name, a home, or even a plan for where to get his next meal. According to the neighbors who made the call, Theo had been living on the street for over a year. His family moved away without him — and whether it was an accident or intentional, the result was that the poor dog didn't have anywhere to sleep.

A survivor at heart, Theo made it on his own for quite some time. The Compton community made sure that he was fed and safe on the streets that he was so familiar with. But no creature can live without warmth, company, or haircuts. When it was clear that Theo's parents weren't coming to get him, Hope for Paws was finally called.

According to the Daily Mail, Eldad Hagar, the man behind the familiar hands that are shown in Hope for Paws videos, showed up to Theo's neighborhood on a warm and sunny day. He brought along his lucky red leash. His good friend, Annie Hart, came along as backup.

Theo was hiding under a car when Eldad and Annie came to get him. He didn't recognize this strange pair of humans, and he'd long since learned to be wary of anyone who looked like a dog catcher. So when they tried to coax him out from under the car, he did what any smart street dog would: he bolted.

Theo's mad dash down the sidewalk is one of the most exciting parts of this video. His long, matted fur blows majestically in the wind as he runs at full speed. Eventually, Theo cuts behind a fence and tries to hide in someone's side yard.

But Theo isn't faster or smarter than Eldad, one of the nation's leading experts in chasing and catching scared dogs. Before he knows what's going on, Theo has the lucky leash around his neck and is sitting in the Hope for Paws car, getting pet by Annie.

The residents of Compton must have been great to Theo; despite being a stray, this little dog has no problem receiving affection from Eldad and Annie. He's compliant and happy as they pick him up and drive him back to the Hope for Paws headquarters. Once on the grooming table, Theo finally gets the haircut he desperately needs. Eldad and Annie shave off every one of Theo's matted locks, much to the terrier's relief.

But as great as he looks with a haircut, it's pretty clear that Theo desperately missed both his family and his home. It's hard to go from living on the street to being comfortable in a stranger's house. Theo lays dejectedly on the couch, accepting petting but ultimately disengaged and sad.

Eldad knows that the answer is time and love. He places Theo with a foster home that has other dogs. Within two weeks, the little terrier is running and playing like any normal pup.

Watching this story, it's pretty clear that Theo is a plucky little dog with a strong drive to live. The old chapter of his life might be over, but he's still ready to take on anything the world might throw at him.
