Kids usually have a hard time shopping for their parents. Dads can be especially trying to buy for because they seemingly already have everything they need. When two sons were brainstorming what to get their father from New Jersey for his birthday, one of them came up with a genius idea.
Chris Ferry, an insurance agent from Linwood, N.J. turned 62 on March 16, 2019, and his two sons- Christopher and Mike- wanted to get him a great birthday gift. One day, Christopher called up Mike and proposed his idea for a birthday gift, reported the NY Times.
Christopher wanted to purchase a billboard for his dad's birthday with his phone number emblazoned across the front of it. His hope was that people driving by would call his dad and wish him a happy birthday.

When Mike heard Christopher's idea, he laughed hysterically and thought it was a great idea. The pair went in on the gift together- one that cost a total of $2,000.
The billboard featured a picture of their dad on a black background with the words, "WISH MY DAD HAPPY BIRTHDAY -Love, Your Sons" in big, bold, white letters. Their dad's phone number was printed at the bottom of the billboard for all to see when they drove past it.
After purchasing the billboard, Chris and Mike anxiously awaited their dad's birthday to see what would happen.
“The ultimate prank,” Christopher Ferry said to the NY Times.
On the morning of March 16, 2019, Chris Ferry began receiving multiple phone calls and text messages from complete strangers wishing him a happy birthday.
He wondered how all of these people had gotten his number and how they all knew it was his birthday. As the phone calls and texts filtered in- many from people out of the country and in places like Africa and Europe, Chris decided to get to the bottom of this dilemma.
He asked one caller how he knew it was his birthday and the caller replied that it was on a billboard.
Chris ventured out to the billboard to see it with his own eyes, even posing for a selfie in front of it. The hilarious story of these two sons playing a birthday prank on their dad went viral, with Chris receiving over 20,000 calls and texts, according to the NY Times.
