One son's devotion is helping to combat his father's crippling Alzheimer's diagnosis.

Ted McDermott was diagnosed with the horrible disease a few years ago. The diagnosis has left Ted forgetting many things and experiencing an aggressive temperament not indicative of his true personality.

While most of his family was left hopeless, Ted's son Mac refused to give up on his father.

Mac knew that his dad's primary passion in life was music. Ted used to travel all over the United Kingdom singing in clubs and living his dream.

As he got older and settled down with a family, it became more challenging to keep up with the music touring lifestyle.

Mac said that although his father was not able to tour any longer, music was still at the forefront of his life. Ted had even earned the nickname of the “The Songaminute Man” because of all of the songs that he knew by heart.

The failing of his memory because of the Alzheimer's made it especially difficult for his family to bear because he could no longer remember his beloved music. Or so they thought.

Whenever Ted was having an aggressive episode, Mac would turn on the music his father once loved. Ted would immediately calm down and begin singing along. Mac said that this music would bring his father back to the present and help them connect with him again.

Mac and Ted are now kept busy making music together. Their goal is to inspire other families dealing with this devastating disease.
