Somebody Needs To Give This 81-Yr-Old ‘Baby Cuddler’, Who Gave $1 Million To The NICU A 'Human Of The Year' Award

The idea of an elderly man cuddling a baby may be the sweetest thing you can imagine. However, what if you learned that that old man donated $1 million to a hospital where's been volunteering at for the last year and a half?

The old man in question, Louis Mapp, loves the work he does at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the USA Children's and Women's Hospital, which is located in Mobile, Alabama. Each Tuesday, he drives 45 minutes to drive to the hospital where he feeds, burps, and rocks babies when their family can't be with them all of the time.

When speaking to WKRG news, the 81-year-old grandfather of eight (and great-grandfather of two) said that he never tires from it. As an experienced cuddler, Mapp said that seeing the expressions of the babies he rocks make his day.

Mapp's generous spirit can also be felt in the $1 million donations he made to the NICU through he and his wife Melinda's foundation. They wanted to provide an endowment large enough to help caregivers provide things that aren't otherwise covered by the hospital's budget. As Mapp told WKRG, he was happy to send money to a place that "has his heart."

Mapp wanted to give to the hospital after his experiences there and seeing how much it impacted the lives of many. When interviewed by People, he told them that he felt blessed to be there, and wanted to share those blessings back.

Through the Mapps' foundation, they have given out 600 grants to help fund free clinics, rehab programs, and food banks.

Mapp wants to use the time he has left on this planet to help out others. Every day, he prays to the Lord to show him who he can help and where they are.

While he has certainly helped through his financial contributions, Mapp likes to help in any other way he can. This means giving people rides, helping them make phone calls, or whatever else they need. Since his time is limited, Mapp feels he must do everything in his power to help others.

Every Tuesday, his prayers are answered in the form of the newborns he rocks. Since the NICU provides services for a large area with many families, these families often have other obligations like work and other children. This means that volunteers like Mapp must provide the necessary human touch and care when they're gone.

When he talked to the University of Southern Alabama, Mapp explained that he felt that babies are precious in a way that is "hard to put into words."

The next time you think of someone who may be your most favorite person ever, you can't go wrong with an older gentleman that not only loves to cuddle babies but also gives $1 million to the hospital that cares for the babies he cuddles.
