Christmas time can often be difficult for military families. In the most joyous time of the year, most families gather together to celebrate the warmth of the holidays. While most families sing carols under Christmas trees and unwrap presents, military families are often left with space as their loved ones serve our country.
Sometimes the situation is even more complicated when their family members are serving in dangerous places around the world. For this reason, it is especially joyous when members of the military return home for the Christmas holidays and surprise their families. The family of Mike Ciuffoletti got one such surprise this Christmas.
Mike Ciuffoletti is a proud member of the United States Air Force. When Mike told his family that he wouldn’t be able to see them this Christmas, they were saddened but completely understood the situation. As a member of the United States military, Mike did his duty, putting his country before himself. Little did his family know that the airman had a surprise for his family that rivaled anything Santa could leave underneath the tree.
Mike got permission at the last minute to go to his family’s home. With his friend Clark filming the whole thing, Mike quickly went up his family’s driveway and snuck through the front door. Silently gliding through his family’s home that was beautifully adorned for the holiday, Mike stopped at the kitchen door as he prepared to greet his family.

As Mike stepped through the door, his family shouted with joy at his unexpected presence. The family was making the final touches on their Christmas dinner and didn’t expect their dutiful son to stride into the room. Greeting Mike with hugs and kisses, the family was overjoyed that Mike could celebrate the holiday with them.
As they called for Mike’s father, the family dog barked and danced around, glad to have his friend back for the most wonderful time of the year. As Mike and his father embraced, tears ran down both their faces. Clark got a special hug from Mike’s mom too, joking that all he wanted was some jambalaya.
Mike’s story proves that above all, Christmas is a time to be with your family. Mike and his family didn’t need expensive gifts to be happy, their greatest joy was to be together and celebrate the holiday as a family.
