Soldier Dad's Secret Homecoming Seemed To Backfire, So He Hid In His Home For 4 Hours To Prank Family

Staff Sgt. Jeffrey Grimes had to leave his family after Thanksgiving last year to be deployed to Kuwait. He hasn't seen his family since then.

As reported by Inside Edition, the Grimes family lives in Mississippi, and they are very close. Sgt. Grimes' deployment was extremely difficult for his family, but they made frequent use of FaceTime and other social media to remain in close contact.

His wife Holly was aware that her husband was coming home for a visit, but she had no idea that he would come home a couple of days before the day he told her he would be home. The three little girls that Sgt. Grimes left behind didn't know that he was in the United States at all.

Jeffrey thought that he was going to surprise everybody, but when he walked in the door, he discovered that no one was home. Holly and the girls were three hours away visiting Holly's mother.

Jeffrey told Inside Edition, "I get a text saying, 'Hey, I'm going to go visit my mom for the day.’ I'm going, 'No'.”

Jeffrey didn't want to let his original plan go just because Holly decided to suddenly change her plans.

He decided that he would hide in his own home so that he could give his family members the surprise of their lives! The four hours that he hid in the house required him to stay out of sight of the security cameras that were strategically placed around the home. Jeffrey told Inside Edition that he didn't want the security cameras to spoil his surprise, so he avoided them, and it is a good thing that he did!

Holly had the app open on her computer right at the time that Jeffrey was about to make his appearance. When the first girl walked through the door, she screamed! Holly had a surprised look on her face, and the other two girls ran into their father's waiting arms.
