When people think about puppies, they often envision little balls of energy. Most happy, healthy puppies run around their homes without worrying about anything.
However, this isn’t always the case for some animals. In fact, rescue organizations that specialize in animal rescues often encounter all different types of situations, sometimes every day.
Leo is a wonderful little puppy who is one example. This sweet story will probably bring you to tears, so be sure to have a box of tissues handy before you read on. We are happy to say that the ending is quite miraculous.

Animal Aid Unlimited posted a video outlining the work they were doing. The organization reported that they received a call about a crying puppy in a sewage gutter. Concerned, they rushed to the scene to see what exactly was happening.
When they arrived, rescuers encountered a very heavy cement slab right on top of the gutter area. They could also hear the whimpers that were coming from below.
Two men lifted up the slab and moved it out of the way. What they found was horrifying – an emaciated puppy who was later named Leo. The poor canine seemed to be on his last breath. Sprawled in the dirty water, Leo was shaking and panting feebly as he looked up at the people above him.
The poor dog could not even lift up his head. His little nose often dropped down into the water while his rescuers hurried to get him out. One rescuer pulled out a soft blanket to spread out on the hard dirt. He then pulled Leo out and laid him down until he could be taken to the shelter for emergency care.
While Leo did not have any open fractures or wounds, veterinarians believed that he had once been struck hard on the head. He seemed to be suffering from very severe neurological problems. Leo would sleep for days almost non-stop and would often fall down or have seizures when he tried to walk around.
However, his loving caregivers were not going to give up. Their patience paid off! Today, Leo now is a healthy, curious, bright-eyed dog that loves to play and interact with humans. It just goes to show how love and attention can make anyone thrive!
