Snap Inc. CEO Evan Spiegel and his wife, Miranda Kerr, are making a life-changing difference for hundreds of thousands of Californians through a major charitable effort that erases medical debt and supports families recovering from devastating wildfires.

The couple’s multimillion-dollar donation to nonprofit Undue Medical Debt has helped eliminate more than $550 million in unpaid medical bills for over 261,000 California residents, according to the organization's June 25, 2026, announcement. The initiative offers relief to families struggling with healthcare costs and builds on the couple’s broader commitment to giving back to their community.

“When someone you love is sick, all you want to do is focus on helping them get better,” Kerr, a model and founder of skincare brand KORA Organics, said in a video with Spiegel. “That’s why we wanted to support this effort and help relieve medical debt, so families can focus on caring for their loved ones and really supporting their healing.”

Undue Medical Debt purchases qualifying medical debt in bulk from hospitals, physician groups and collection agencies at a fraction of its original value before canceling it. The nonprofit identifies eligible recipients based on financial need, meaning individuals do not have to apply for the relief themselves.

The couple’s philanthropy also extends to Los Angeles residents still recovering from the devastating January 2025 wildfires. Spiegel, who grew up in Pacific Palisades, lost his childhood home in the disaster, making the recovery effort deeply personal for him.

In the immediate aftermath of the fires, Spiegel, Snap, and co-founder Bobby Murphy donated $5 million in emergency assistance. They also committed $10 million to help launch the Department of Angels, a nonprofit initiative focused on supporting the long-term recovery of communities affected by the fires.

Spiegel has emphasized that the needs of survivors have not disappeared simply because the initial disaster has passed. Many families continue to face challenges rebuilding their lives, and the need for sustained assistance remains significant.

Spiegel and Kerr have also supported a long-term research initiative examining the health consequences of the wildfires. The Los Angeles Fire Human Exposure and Long-Term Health Study, launched by UCLA and collaborating institutions, aims to investigate the fires’ potential lasting effects on residents’ health.

For the couple, philanthropy is also an opportunity to pass important values on to their children. The couple has three sons together, while Kerr also shares son Flynn with her former husband, actor Orlando Bloom.

Spiegel has spoken about the importance of involving their children in charitable activities and teaching them to recognize the privileges they enjoy. By encouraging their family to participate in service, the couple hope to instill a lasting sense of gratitude, generosity and responsibility toward others.

Their latest efforts build on previous charitable work, including helping graduates of Otis College of Art and Design pay off more than $10 million in student loans in 2022.

Spiegel’s commitment to community service received further recognition at the eighth annual George H.W. Bush Points of Light Awards in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 13, 2026. The awards celebrate individuals and organizations whose work strengthens communities through service and civic engagement.

For the tech executive and the supermodel-turned-entrepreneur, the recognition highlights a broader mission that goes beyond a single donation. By addressing medical debt, supporting wildfire survivors and investing in research, the couple are helping families navigate immediate hardships while working toward a more resilient future.
