Small Dog Was Dying Beneath 9 Pounds Of Matted Fur – Gets Life-Saving Procedure From Shelter

Ellie Mae is the name of a Shih Tzu found by a cleaning crew following her owner's death. The condition of the small dog seemed to indicate she would soon join her previous owner. Ellie Mae had undergone years of neglect reflected by the thick dirty coat of matted fur leaving the little Shih Tzu unable to walk.

The Nebraska Humane Society received Ellie Mae in their operating rooms barely recognizable as a dog, reports the New York Post. It was doubtful her legs would be salvageable with the mass of fur cutting off blood flow. Vets of the Humane Society began work looking for a living creature under the mass of filth and grime encasing the poor creature.

As the coat diminished, it was evident the neglect had transcended a bulk of time. Her long curled nails were exposed, revealing the futility that she could walk nor could have for some time. After more than an hour, nine pounds of matted fur and filth were removed from Ellie Mae.

A vet asserted there was enough mass for two dogs now that she weighs in at only 11 pounds. Life began to rise again as a dog manifested from the knotted disarray. Her sweet happy face was finally seen. The first findings were she still had blood flow to her legs, although one had to be treated for an infection. A few other issues were discovered.

She would need hernia surgery, dental work, and arthritis had crept into her back due to years of inadequate use. Only a few hours had passed before Ellie Mae was up ready to play. She gave and received all the love anyone around her could handle. After five hours had passed, she was still stumbling trying to regain her strength but was ready to venture outdoors.

Ellie Mae took a few more weeks but has recovered well from this traumatic experience. She greets everyone in a friendly manner with no resemblance to the ball of matted fur she was introduced as. On September 21, 2019, the Humane Society announced Ellie Mae had found her new home.
